Arguing A Reflective Essay 'Opposing A Solution'

I am fully aware that being creative is a vital skill when it comes to being a strong writer. Unfortunately, I am going to conclude this quarter by doing what I have been all year, and that is answering the prompt. I guess it is safe to say that I’m putting a touch of creativity by not being creative at all. I am going to treat this essay as a cool down lap after a full on sprint of a quarter. My goal is to exhibit my growth as a writer by taking a more informal approach towards the prompts that were given. Every essay that I wrote this quarter has been influenced by some sort of interest, observation, or experience. I personally enjoyed writing the “Arguing a Position” essay the most because I argued against being politically correct, a position that a majority of the public would not …show more content…
I chose this topic because of my annoyance of social justice warriors across social media and across college campuses. I’ve noticed that people can no longer have their own opinion without insulting people that are set out to nitpick against every issue that they disagree with. The fact that I was able to express my position made writing this essay very enjoyable. I chose the topic of obesity for the “Proposing a Solution” essay because it is an issue that is prevalent in the United States. I believe that it is very disappointing that our country has put itself into an epidemic of obesity and it was worthy of discussion. I didn’t know how to frame the specific issue; but what better way to frame it than focusing on Arkansas, the proclaimed “fattest” state in the country. The topic I chose for the “Speculating About Causes” essay was influenced greatly from my observation of everyone in the residence hall and

Overall the essays that we have read this semester have been good. There are a few essays in particular that I think benefited me the most was “The Time to Act I Now” written by Al Gore, “Just Walk on By” written by Brent Staples, and the “Letter from Birmingham Jail” written by Martin Luther King. These essays have benefited me in a numerous amount of ways in which I am going to explain how their writing styles helped me become a better writer. Staples helped me a lot in which he taught me to explain my reasoning fully so that the audience know exactly what I am talking about. Another thing that Staples taught me was to explain the setting of the story in full detail so the readers can visualize what’s actually happening in the story this…

There are many factors that come into play when understanding the causes of obesity. The causes must be recognized before solutions can be made. The authors of Hungry for Change effectively discuss the many layers of the detrimental situation, and why food is the new drug of America. The society of America disguisedly favors obesity by insinuating addiction and marketing on the emotions and stresses of people unable to understand the biochemistry of what is happening in their own bodies. Hungry for Change’s biochemical, societal, and cultural take on obesity exemplifies the complexity of the issue, and provides an understanding of what is wrong, why it is wrong, and how to mend this epidemic and eradicate this new drug from killing…

He adds that there is also a lack of education as to what should or should not be consumed, in particular among poor individuals. Even if there is reference to what should be consumed people do not know how to understand the labels. Both authors bring forth valid ideas for why obesity has drastically increased in the past few years. While also discussing if this growing issue should be seen as a public or private issue. Although, both writers present valid points neither succeed in presenting completely effective ideas.…

Christopher, I think you have great research facts to back up your essay's stance. The Denmark 'Fat Tax example is a great way to show a government's failed attempt to regulate people's eating habits. Also, the New York City's requirement for calorie listing of restaurants' foods that overall resulted in no change in eating habits shows another failure. I like your ideas of offering educational programs or free gyms to encourage physical activity and making healthier eating choices. Those sound like good suggestions to me.…

Once I entered college everything changed; I began to learn about writers and people who were known because of their great works of literature. In college, you are held to a higher standard and responsibility than you are in high school; this challenge has encouraged me to work hard and because of this I have become better at writing.…

Reflection and Cover Letter It is not ironic that I choose to rewrite the first essay that I ever wrote as a Nittany Lion, my rebuttal argument. Looking back to the awkward freshmen that walked into the first day of English 15 and the person that I am today, I realized that I grew in many ways. This includes my maturity level, my independence, my social life, and, yes, my writing. I was completely closed minded about my writing abilities at the beginning of the semester.…

Topic 3: Fast food restaurants are often blamed for obesity. Is it appropriate to place the blame on the fast food chains or should obesity be considered an individual’s responsibility? In this modern world, the more time people spend on working and making money, the less time they spend on cooking and making healthy food choices, and this leads to the rise of fast food culture and an increasing rate of obesity all over the world. Some critics may state that the spread of fast food restaurants plays a big role in the growing obesity rate and people often put the blame for obesity on those restaurants, but many studies have pointed out that fast food restaurants are definitely not the ones to blame in the situation.…
