Mask Observation Report

After VW I ended, I was on a roll! Using the open mic had been going awesome! Excitement about using the mask was followed by a bit of anxiety. Initially, I was under the impression that getting used to and adapting to the mask would be easy. It was with great ease I was able to set up the mask with my laptop and DNS. One of the 1st things I dictated was my Week 1 discussion post. The mask was working well with Dragon and seemed to be hearing me. One of the 1st obvious challenges that I faced with the mask was breathing and getting used to the feel of it on my face. For me, through some trial and error, I discovered the best way to take in a deep breath; is to lift the mask downwards, so that my nose is exposed and take in a deep, silent …show more content…
One day, my accuracy scores are great and I am feeling encouraged. The next day, it’s like we are back at square one. I never had this issue with the open mic. My accuracy always got better and I always ended my practice feeling encouraged. When working with the open mic, my accuracy scores were at 96% or higher. When working with the voice mask, my accuracy scores seemed to plummet! My initial scores seemed be in the low to mid 90s but at times in the high 80s. Most of the dictations improved after my training but a lot of my mistakes were with the little words such as: and, the, a and ‘s. The paragraphs that we had through the weeks, which focused on particular sounds, were some of the harder dictations for me. Whenever I would sit down and start to read the paragraphs, I would speak clearly (or so I thought) and not only that, I would be reading from a paper, which I thought would make things easier. I wouldn’t have to focus so hard because the words would be right there and I could concentrate more on enunciation and taking my time. The paragraphs were where I got some of my worse accuracy scores. I would stick with it until I improved or usually, if I came back to it later or the next

After today’s class discussion, I was able to learn new and different ways to take data. It was interesting to see how similar and different recording data can be depending on the goal and disorder. For example, last semester I did not find it as hard to track data for my accent modification client. However, this semester I have changed the way I keep track of data during sessions. My client is working on basic age appropriate sounds mainly because she exhibits a lot of phonological processes.…

When creating a performance that focuses on the expressiveness of the body the actor must no longer rely on their face as their gateway to expression. By introducing a mask the actor has to stop thinking of his or her face as a focal point and instead they must represent the character feelings physically. ‘There’s a freedom that comes from putting on the mask, expressing yourself solely through your body’ (Schiffman, 2005). Mask work aims to free the actors from the pressures placed on delivering lines and instead allows them to connect with the characters on a deeper and more physical level. The ‘Neutral Mask’’ (Lecoq,2009:p39) is the perfect starting point, it is a mask without expression or characteristics and it's blank nature forces…

I tried extremely hard and made sure that everything I did displayed nothing less than excellence throughout the week. It is nesseccary for them to attend to these private and group meeting to help them stay on track. Many of them see these meeting as pointless and stupid but they are very beneficial to their progress. Areas that I feel like I have improved in during this communications 101 course is becoming more confident in speaking in front of a small crowd, learning how to write speeches, and learning how to research and prepare for speeches. Everyone 's fear is public speaking. I avoided taking this class for the longest time just because I did not want to have to take a class where its entirety was just about speaking in front of people and doing a handful of speeches being my primary grade. I needed to take this class for when I transfer over to Arizona State University in the fall of 2017 so getting this class out of the way now at the University of Nevada was more of an ideal plan rather than taking it at ASU. This class is a core pre-requisite…

I completed my infant observation at the University Child Development Center. The University Child Development Center specializes in childcare for infants all the way up to children age 12. The infant I observed was about eight months of age and was placed in a classroom that usually has a relatively small number of infants for better one on one attention. As I completed my observation, I observed all five developmental domains which include physical, emotional and social, cognitive, adaptive, and language and communication.…
