Anne Bradstreet Reflection

Going into this week assignment I was having a hard time trying to decide on which topic I should select. After reading the poem “To my Dear and Loving Husband” by Anne Bradstreet, I decided to stick with the topic of love, and the love couples share. I selected topic 2, and I chose a slow-tempo contemporary R&B and Soul piece written and produced by Beyoncé Knowles, The Dream, and Tricky Stewart titled, 1 + 1. According to Wikipedia 1 + 1 was originally titled “Nothing but Love”. This songs expresses the love she has for her significant other, line after line you understood how endless her love was for her soul mate. This was one of my favorite songs from her 4th album, her lyrics made a solid, strong and secure statements about the power and love in relationships. She showed everyone that she is a lyrical genius.
This song first starts off with a beautiful sound combined with an organ and a guitar, which surely grabs the attention of the listener. She says “If I ain’t got nothing, I got you, if I ain’t got

Its several different ways to look at this stanza! Beyoncé’s words throughout this song shows she is an artist and is singing poetry. It is like reading a poem. She uses the violent actions of being shot by a gun and I gathered it’s the same as being shot by love. No one wishes for death, but for her to say, “Die by you” means if she was to die, she wouldn’t want it to be from a sickness, injury, or maybe a car accident, but by the effects of his love, she hopes to die by the love he gives to her. I sing this song to the top of my lungs, if you know of true love, or love hard you can relate to all of these feelings. Towards the end of her chorus, she says, “ I don 't know much about fighting but I, I know I will fight for you

The social and political system in the United States of America unquestionably revolves around white supremacy and misogyny. Many pop culture icons have attempted to make a change, but none have seemed to have done it quite like Beyoncé Knowles-Carter. The pop icon released her album, Lemonade, in April of 2016, which lyrically and visually shows themes of different social issues such as racism and the treatment of women. Beyoncé combines the two together and explicitly discusses the injustices faced among African-American women, which can be heard and seen in the visuals during songs like “Don’t Hurt Yourself” and “Freedom”. Beyoncé takes her personal life, expands it, and leads it into the illustration of the struggle black women face across the United States.…

Anne Bradstreet was born as Anne Dudley in Northampton, England in 1612. Her parents were Thomas Dudley, who was a steward of the Earl of Lincoln, and Dorothy Yorke. Anne became very well educated due to her father’s high position, which was unique because most women did not receive an education during this time period. Anne was tutored in many languages such as Greek, Latin, French, Hebrew, and English. She was also tutored in history and literature.…

Love and death are very meaningful to humans. Love and death are eternal, above and beyond physical entities, and extremely powerful. The poems “Death be not proud,” by John Donne, and “somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond,” by E.E. Cummings are poems about love. “To My Dear and Loving Husband,” by Anne Bradstreet, and “Because I could not stop for Death,” by Emily Dickinson are poems that explain death. Donne, Cummings, Bradstreet, and Dickinson have poems that relate death and love.…

“There is a pleasure in the pathless woods, there is a rapture on the lonely shore, there is society, where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar I love not man the less, but nature more.” This quote by George Gordon Byron depicts how beautiful nature is and how much he loves and admires it. Unfortunately, nature has become less respected as years have passed. Early authors of the Puritan and Romantic Era, with works including “To My Dear and Loving Husband,” by Anne Bradstreet; “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God,” by Reverend Jonathan Edwards; and Ropewalk, by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow were influenced by nature. However, Realist and Modern writers, with works including “A Pair of Silk Stockings,” by Kate Chopin; Of Mice…

While I have not had nearly as many hardships in my life as Jeannette Walls in her book The Glass Castle, there are still some things that her and I have in common. Throughout the book, Walls endured many struggles while traveling with her dysfunctional family. Jeannette’s father is constantly getting in the way of her success, from stealing her money to not always making her go to school. Eventually, she leaves her parents behind and makes her way to New York City, where she goes to college and finds success. Similar to how Jeannette had to overcome the obstacles between her and her success, her parents in The Glass Castle, I had to overcome the obstacle between me and my success, my bones.…

believe that Orenstein could have been better prepared since in my opinion it seemed that he did not answer the questions. From this seminar I took away two main lessons, one the most important is that you have to be prepared and know every aspect of your research, even if you are using other sources. The second lesson I took away from this presentation is that other scholars may have the same ideas as you and may beat you to publishing a similar research, thus your research has to stand out and be unique in some aspect. The second presentation was an Emerging Scholar Conference which took place on November 11 in the Eldersveld Room, 5670 Haven Hall as well. This presentation was presented by Elijah Cole Stanley, titled “Climate Concern:…

Her first few lines " Hey, yo I don 't even know you and I hate you see all I know is that my girlfriend used to date you" lets you know that know that even though she does not know that guy she hates him and what he is doing to her friend. You can feel how Eve is not happy about the abuse that she is seeing unfold right before her eyes. The chorus itself explains "Love is blind, and it will take over your mind what you think is love, is truly not you need to elevate and find" she is saying that when your feelings play a role then its hard to see pass that. That the girl needs to open her eyes and realize what is happening before it is to…

I think Barbara Kingsolver did a nice job at ending the book. Sometimes you have authors that leave parts hanging or leave you with unanswered questions. With Flight Behavior, it was interesting to see how she finished the story. To me Kingsolver ended the book by showing that no matter the hardships in life you can always find a way to survive and make it through those tough times. I think that is what she wants us to realize from the book is that in order to make a difference and be happy you have to go out there and make a difference.…

This song talks about the speaker who is abused by her boyfriend but she stands by him because she loves him. This is similar to when we find out that Mayella was abused by her father but still loves him because well, it’s her father. They both show unhealthy relationships and how bad things can be at home. The mood in both of this song and the book is desperate. They are both desperate for love and will do anything to stay by their family/man.…

__I think the meaning of the song that Beyoncé wrote is describing pain and what females have to go to or young teens go through, trying to impress the world, and society. How that all what we do don’t mean anything or how we present ourselves maybe we aren’t too happy on the inside maybe everything isn’t all that’s well. I like the song genre because it really feels like music for our souls trying to heal it also. The new generation now we teenagers are affected by this particular song. I think the most powerful lyrics of the song is “pretty Hurts”, because that is the pain of the song the ultimate feelings that’s what she’s trying to get the audience to understand.…
