When Animal Farm was first created the pigs had taken the milk and apples for themselves and not for the animals. When the beasts questioned the pig’s motives they were simply deceived by “many of us actually dislike milk and apples” (35). If the animals stood up for themselves, everyone could of have milk and apples. But they did not stand up for themselves and deception had won once again. The pigs had broken the commandments many times, but the biggest commandment they broke was walking on their hind legs. By doing this they showed their loyalty to the humans, not the animals. “It was a pig walking on his hind legs” (132). They did not protest against the pigs or put them on trial. For the second time in Animal Farm history they silently allowed deception to take over. Another time that they did not protest against the deception was when the pigs broke yet another commandment and brought the whips back into use. They were becoming crueler than Mr. Jones, but the animals did not stand up for themselves. “He carried a whip in his trotter” (133). The animals contemplated about protesting against this because it was inhumane of the pigs to bring back whips but the sheep on the farm allowed for the deception to continue. If the sheep had not allowed for this deception to happen they would have a better life. They would not be getting whipped by the pigs.
