“Organization analyze the structure of their industry, and using that analysis, they formulate a competitive strategy.” (2014, p52) When starting any business their are always risks on whether the business will fail in a year or a hundreams. Porter's five force model is used to help a startup evaluate the choice of starting a new business by taking a look at the current market. In Porter's model he looks at the threat of new entrants, threat of substitutes, bargaining power for customers, Bargaining power of suppliers, and Industry rivalry. Multiple homes collecting energy is more efficient than one just trying to power itself. My idea is that people part of this mini energy farm can choose to either buy energy from Edson or pull from the group energy. Just like Edson's energy rate is determined by usage so will ours. Our system will automatic switch between power stations depending on the current rate. We will have an app that will show energy usage for the whole area and display rates and best times to use major appliances. This is the same data that edson's collects, but does not share. If out of fifty homes and your house is the only one using electric power your rate will be really low, and if someone plugs in your rate goes up just a bit and so on. The power industry has very few rivalries but as prices go up people will be looking for alternatives. In my company I am hoping to design my own state of the art panels which mean bargaining power of suppliers will be low, and the parts to assemble can be found anywhere. Having to only support small groups of people will boot customer relations, and make people feel that they are a part of something bigger. There is no one out there right now that I know of doing a mini power grid concept which makes this a good idea. Looking at all parts of Porter's model for force
