Freshman Gone Wild
When freshman first set foot inside of the dorms, they have high hopes. They don’t see a rundown sink or a cracked window, they see freedom. They see freedom from parents, fun nights, and no rules. Sometimes, freshman who come in the dorm learn to manage their time and handle their responsibilities. While others tend to lose focus, become lazy, irresponsible, and ultimately start failing their classes. Some people may say it’s up to the student to learn the adjustment from living under household rules to having youre own freedom. But how can they learn how to if they have no teaching to do so? Parents are High Schools are not teaching students how to manage their time and take care of their responsibilities while living on their own and this must be stopped.

Every student reacts to this transition differently. Some students choose to stay up studying while others choose to stay up causing disturbances being loud. The student playing loud music ends up affecting the students living around him by keeping them up or distracting others from their studies. When asking a friend of mine about their college experience, they said: “The outer environment you are in will always affect you to a certain point, but ultimately you can control to what level you allow it to affect you. My freshmen year, I was negatively affected by my suite mate’s poor hygiene and my upstairs neighbors persistent stomping this year. I had to decide how to confront them and work towards a resolution. There have also been instances where I was the disturbance as well. I recently had the police come because I was too loud and a noise compliant was issued by my neighbor (Kacie Wall).” It’s difficult adjusting to living on your own and taking on more responsibilities for yourself but it can and has been
