The Reconstruction period, which lasted from 1863 to 1877, is one of the most important time periods in American history. Reconstruction was about a country trying to heal after a bitter civil war. The country needed to decide where newly freed slaves fit in politically, socially, and economically. Because of the deep emotion involved after the Civil War, Reconstruction was one of the most divisive periods in American history. To help understand the time period and the division surrounding Reconstruction, there have been scholarly books that have covered this topic. This is due to his credibility with his study, the way he portrays how President Andrew Johnson made the process longer than it needed it to be, how African Americans dealt with these new circumstances with their new lives, and how the south tried to keep control of their power. The book is well researched that it reads like a History textbook that makes it both instructive and memorable to those who read. And, the book is the best resource that a person can have if they want to do a project of Reconstruction. It will bring them a new take of the Reconstruction era and it would hopefully help people in an uncertain world. and, it shows that we still have come a long way since Reconstruction.
