The world watch institute states, that fossil fuels make up “87% of global primary energy consumption.” Fossil fuels have been a primary choice for energy since its discovery because of the ease of use, the availability of it, the simple extrusion and refinery processes, and until recently the ignorance to other sources that could produce energy as abundantly. Even after the discovery of new methods to produce energy fossil fuels remained the dominant source of energy because of the hold and control oil and gas industries have on the economy. However, although fossil fuels have been the dominant source of energy the use of them cannot continue forever because they are a nonrenewable resource which means that it is not replenishable. Once it is used it is gone. It is a finite resource. Abstracting energy from fossil fuels creates harmful pollutants that cause a negative environmental impact on the world’s ecosystem. A desire to resolve the issue has led to the investment and design of renewable resources. Green energy such as solar panels, wind energy made accessible though wind turbines, and the use of water are renewable resources that will never run out and allow the reduction of emission by 290g to 1,060g of CO2 per kWh of energy used. Based on the United States usage of energy in 2012 of 4,281,694,000,000 up to 2 billion tons of CO2 a year can be reduced. In the past nuclear energy was …show more content…
If individuals were more informed about the creation and safety of nuclear energy then they would feel more comfortable regarding the use of power plants. Lack of knowledge and the high profile coverage of nuclear accidents has encouraged fear and hysteria around the use of nuclear energy. Groups like green peace are using this fear to get people to support their cause and ideals. Their ideals aren’t based or driven sound facts but emotions and this is how they appeal to others. They use the strong emotions people get from seeing diasasters like fukishima on tv. To combat this the government or even nuclear companies themselves should try to give plant safety and get data sheets. With the correct facts being brought out peoples are more likely to agree to go nuclear and appeal less to companies like organizations like green peace then people would stop viewing nuclear plants as this ticking time bomb waiting to explode and destroy everything and more like a great power source that can power the future. The exposure of data will spark controversy between some people and companies which is good because where there’s controversy there is attention and right now nuclear energy needs attention once attention is brought on it will be easier to show the facts to more people and to
