Technology rapidly advancing every day to create a more efficient human life. However, technology is advancing rapidly to the point where it is becoming too intelligent, unpredictable, and uncontrollable. Advancing technology has many benefits, but people are missing out on the risks it also brings. There are two main risks in advancing technology. The first risk is that the technology is programmed to be devastating. Technology is always increasing and the human race is always getting smarter. “Technology offers a continually, if unevenly, expanding domain of increasing human …show more content…
It creates a more efficient lifestyle for humans. The benefits from the advancement of technology can range from babysitting to healthcare. For example, In the movie, Prometheus, there was a self-diagnosing and self-treatment capsule. The person can hop inside the capsule to have regular checkups and treat themselves via surgery. If humans had the device today, there would be no such thing as sickness or death. The device can ensure every human to have a healthy life. In addition to healthcare, AI can be a great personal assistant. The robots in “I-Robot” are the best example of personal assistants. They were programmed to be the best version of a human assistant. They complied to almost every command and achieved them how a human would, but more efficiently. “For many, technology embodies the modern ideal of applying rationality to the betterment of humankind” (Allenby and Sarewitz). After crashing his boat, the resuscitator was used on him when someone else who was legitimately sick needed it. It caused an unnecessary death. Technology cannot be heavily depended on. The benefits coming from the development of technology today are not worth the risks of the potential misuses, loss of human nature, dependency, and/or any other potential problem that could arise. We have much proof that technology can be a dangerous thing such as nuclear weapons, then again, it has proven to be an extremely beneficial thing too such as airplanes. It is an absolute fact however that technology proves to be dangerous no matter how helpful it may be, if it is placed in the wrong hands, and that simply is not a factor that should be a risk. To begin, “Sometime early in this century the intelligence of machines will exceed that of humans.…
