Brokeback Mountain Short Story

What does the word Love mean? Is it a feeling, or an action? Is there more than one kind of love? In the short story created by Annie Proulx, the overall category of it could be described as a love story. The story is about two people who take a job and work together over the summer. The two people who at first start as just friends end up falling in love and having sexual a sexual relationship throughout their summer together. The two end up going their own different ways because despite their hopes, they know their love would never be able to work out. This is the basis of the story Brokeback mountain, and to anyone hearing this for the first time, they would say it is the beginning of a classical love story. So it is interesting to see how people react when there is a realization that the relationship in the story is between two men, not a man and a woman. Being nominated for many awards and appraised for its superior meaning. But like any other thing that is great, hatred follows it. Obviously Annie Proulx story was ragged on and shunned because of the homosexual message, many people did not want to accept the story as being a love story with the characters that were in it. Yet, Proulx 's story was to good to throw away so naturally the title went to a “Gay Love Story”. More recent reviews of Borkeback Mountain accept, and promote the idea of the love story because of the opening trend of homosexuality. Alleva Richard says in Emotional Apartheid, “Brokeback Mountain is not a gay movie.” By saying this, the idea of a gay movie, or a gay love story is disappearing and the idea of a normal story is coming into view. This is good because more people are starting to open their eyes and be able to read this love story without being thrown off by the fact that it take place between two
