Problem 1 – Lack of physical activity in office jobs
Annually, there are approximately 3.2 million deaths worldwide caused by physical inactivity (World Health Organization, 2017). It has been found that as the economy evolves, jobs are becoming more and more sedentary (Stearns, 2017). This means more people are spending their days working at a sedentary desk job, rarely getting up to do anything. Although the economy is evolving and the workplace is becoming more productive, the negative health effects of a sedentary lifestyle are very concerning (Stearns, 2017). The problem with technology like the fitness trackers is that it is popular when it first comes out and then eventually people forget about it and stop using it (Wooldride, 2014). Fitness tracking wearable’s are far their best potential (Newman, 2014) and because of this people don’t keep them for long until they sell them. Newman (2014) mentions that half of the Americans that own a fitness tracker do not use it anymore and have it stored away. Newman (2014) also mentions that fitness wearables never improve with different models, unlike smart phones that often improve with newer models. Fitness tracker companies, such as Fitbit, often just create completely new products instead of improving on old models and creating newer and improved ones (Newman, 2014). Also, after a short period of time users get bored of seeing the same results on their fitness tracker and begin to lose interest (Newman, 2014). Fitness trackers are also very similar to features that one can access through their smart phones, so less people are buying these trackers. The firm known as Endeavour Partners found that half of the Americans who use fitness trackers no longer use it (as cited in Newman, 2014). Opinion Research US found that workers aged 18-24 thought the number one problem in the workplace was poor communication by management about the job/business. It is important that managers provide every bit of information possible so employees don’t have to figure things out on their own. Young professionals starting their career don’t want the frustrations of not knowing certain things and it slows their development.
