Pros And Cons Of Passive Euthanasia

Euthanasia is more than “mercy killing,” it has many different components that support why it should be legalized. There are two types of euthanasia, passive and active. According to Daniel Gorman, the author of “Active and passive euthanasia: The Case of Drs. Claudio Alberto de la Rocha and Nancy Morrison.” Gorman is in the medical field and in this article it talks about both of the types of euthanasia, active and passive euthanasia. “Hastening the death of a person by altering some form of support and letting nature take its course is known as passive euthanasia” (Gorman). Many doctors give large doses of morphine to ensure that the patient is in no pain whatsoever. The other side of euthanasia is active euthanasia, this form is more controversial because it is see as direct killing of the patient. “Active euthanasia involves causing the death of a person through a direct action, in response to a request from that person” (Gorman). Many doctors in the past have administered large doses of lethal medicine to the patient. This form of euthanasia is why a lot of society has doubt about euthanasia. Each form of euthanasia is giving this patient the right to say when and how he/she will die. Every person in the world has the right to die, no matter what their previous life may be. I believe people with terminal illness also have the right to die in a dignified manner. These patients go most of their life battling this disease, their whole life was stolen by this disease. Many people in our society are in favor for euthanasia because we live in a democratic country where we have many differents rights and we are all free.
