Why I Chose Accounting

Improved Essays
One of my few regrets in life was not going to college after graduating high school. I decided to take a year off after graduating, and then life happened. I accepted a position at a local Chevrolet dealership and for fifteen years worked my way up to a manager. My position was eliminated about a year ago and I have been in limbo ever since. After leaving the dealership, I applied to numerous jobs, in state, out of state, and even overseas. All potential employers were impressed with my work experience, every time the lack of a degree prevented me from getting the position. I decided after spending time overseas in Malaysia, that my best option to get the career I wanted, I would have to go to college and pursue a degree. In the spring of 2016, I enrolled at SUNY Empire State College (ESC) to pursue a degree in Business, Management, and Economics with a concentration in Human Resource Management. I have designed a degree program that meets ESC guidelines. I am confident this degree program will give me the necessary skills, knowledge, and expertise in the various areas of business.

Loss of Jobs Across Nation As of October, 2016 the unemployment rate for the United States has raised to a whopping 4.5%, about 2% higher than it was in 1954. The loss of jobs our nation faces is one of the biggest social issues we have and will most likely have for many years to come. My Motivation: What motivates me the most to pursue a college degree is that I will be the first person in my family to receive one. My grandmother is the backbone behind this motivation because she was always making sure that academics came first in my life. There was rarely a day that I would come home and she would not ask me questions about my homework, asking what I learned in school, or even looked over my homework. As I got older, she made sure I was a part of a college prep program called AVID from 6th-12th grade and that definitely made a difference for me. It helped me understand the importance of continuing your education and how beneficial it can be to succeeding in life.…
