Academic and research writing has always remained a challenging subject in my academic career. Writing a well-articulated and coherent paper on the academic subject matter is a thought-provoking process, and I always struggled with it. As an international student, when I commenced my studies abroad in English, the language barrier increased the difficulty in writing. The Composition 111 has been a significant milestone in my journey to learn academic writing in English. The thesis statement is the crux of the essay and informs the audience about the essay. The thesis statement for different types of essays is written in different sentence structure. In the argumentative essay, the thesis statement highlights the argument, while, in the informative essay, it announces the information about the subject. Through the lectures and helping materials, and also the templates, I learned to make the thesis statement. It is also the most time-taking part of the essay writing as most of the essay depends on this part. The revising and proofreading are the techniques that I learned in Composition 111 essay that can significantly enhance the quality of a piece of writing. I acquired that once the draft is finished, one should proofread to point out any errors and revise it to ensure that each part is coherent and has a meaningful place in an essay. In revising the draft, I learned to correct the grammatical errors that remained unnoticed in the drafting stage of an essay. Also, I read and comprehended each paragraph of the drafts and reflected on how to improve its overall relevance and conciseness.
