Tabernaculo De Dios Filadelphia

On October 1, 2016, I attended Tabernaculo de Dios Filadelphia (Spanish Pentecostal church) special service that can be considered a mini concert. This concert took place in a small church pastored by two elderlies named Angel & Esther Carrasquillo. Pastors Carasquillos are not only pastors but their first ministry back in Puerto Rico was music. They’ve been in the music ministry since they were 15 years old and they are now in their late seventies so they have quite the knowledge and experience in seeing the evolution of music through time. The pastors are a duet, as Esther sings the beautiful songs Angel is accompanying her with a classic acoustic guitar. In this special service, they were not the only one participating but also other singers …show more content…
Figueroa is also a Puerto Rican singer but he is much younger than Angel, he is around his mid thirty’s. Figueroa does not play any instrument but he has an amazing voice, it is very strong and thick. Figueroa chooses to perform a faster tempo song that was highly syncopated and used a lot more instruments than Esters and Angels song. The song he chooses to perform was called “En El Ano 1916” in English meaning “In The year 1916”. This song is made reference to the Pentecostal movement throughout the world, in one of the verses it says “Anda arriba, anda abajo predicando la palabra” meaning up and down the street preaching the word of God. The song was in a verse-chorus structure and also call and response form. An example of the call and response would be “poder, poder, poder de Dios” (“power, power, power of God”) as Figueroa sang (called) the first two powers the entire church would respond with power of God. The instruments that were being used for thus performance were an electric guitar, an acoustic guitar, claves, congas, drum set, cowbell, timbales, piano, and tambourine. I would say this was the longest song but the most fun and energizing. Seeing all the instruments play together was just amazing especially when it came to the drums. The timbales just sounded so amazing and the way the man was playing it was amazing because of how fast he was moving. At all times the clave was the one carrying the beat and the other instruments followed. While the musician played the church were given tambourines to play along and some people even had maracas and guiros. This was the last performance of the night and the concert sure did end with a

I appreciated the effort and music the mariachi group gave in their performance. I noticed how the trumpet usually took the main role while the violins supported the trumpets voice, usually by pizzicato. The guitar and guitarrón were mainly the background music that played the same rhythm over and over. It made me realize the beauty of…

Music is an important part any country’s culture. It exemplifies the mood and feelings of the people of that time and is a representation of their experiences. As time flows on that music changes along with it, bringing new ideas and new songs to the stage. The music of the past slowly fades away as people forget it and stop paying homage to it. Conjunto Philadelphia is a band that wants to preserve the music of Pre-Revolutionary Cuba and make sure it isn’t forgotten.…

Throughout history there have been many extraordinary music composers, the majority of them with a unique style and flare. European composers such as Beethoven, Mozart and Bach have gained exceptional recognition for their outstanding music, and have become some of the greatest composers of all time. However, we must also acknowledge and appreciate the art and music of other marvelous musicians. For instance, one of Latin America’s great composers born on December 31st, 1899 in Durango, Mexico was Silvestre Revueltas. Revueltas was an expressionist composer best known for incorporating his cultural roots and traditions of Mexico into his work, which is such a vital component in Mexican art and music.…

This year, our Marching Band got the chance to go to Nashville, Tennessee where we encountered the different musical culture they had. We attended The Grand Ole Opry, a concert where many talented country musicians performed live in a giant hall. It was a fascinating experience when we learned about the musician’s lives through their music and what they consider everyday aspect of their lives that we don’t have farther up north. One of the band members got the opportunity to participate in a dance off onstage during one of the breaks, something the whole band celebrated in camaraderie. A museum with all things country music, “Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum” held all kinds of pieces from various dresses and instruments of musicians from…

As stated before the concert was not what I was expecting. I enjoyed it more than I believed I would, it certainly isn’t my new favorite type of music, but understanding aspects of it gave me a greater appreciation for the music and the musicians. Things such as a recognizable basso ostinato set by the base player were a familiar starting point. When the soloists needed an accompaniment the bassist varied the continuous rhythm to compliment what the soloist was playing, otherwise, the beat was…

At my church, I recall singing a near direct translation of this song many times. However, the version that I am accustomed to is, in my opinion, far inferior to the one I heard at St. Odilia. All of the parishioners sung along loudly, something that I have very rarely seen at a mass. As the priest walked down the aisle, he began to clap along with the beat and the entire crowd joined him. The fast pace of the song and the audience clapping along made for a very festive atmosphere, something that I would not have expected from a church service, but I very much enjoyed.…

I choose to free write a concert to follow the life of Mariam. Mariam would be best represented by a piano keyboard, since among the piano instruments the keyboard is a misfit and a lower class instrument compared to the piano and organ. A piano is a grand instrument used in concerts and the upper class, events such as weddings, performances and churches. The organ is the backbone of a church used in holy ceremonies and only churches can afford and maintain such an extravagant piano. Even the higher quality midi or digital computer music pianos are tuning out obsolete keyboard.…

What I really enjoyed was the atmosphere. The lights were dimmed so people could feel more comfortable and the music consisted of a good balance of upbeat music, and slow music. Songs were sung and people worshiped for about forty-five minutes. This was a very moving experience. Glancing into the audience, it was evident that everyone was engaged in the worship.…

On April 7, 2018 the New York Repertory Orchestra played in the church of St. Mary the Virgin and performed three musical pieces. The architecture of this church is so beautiful, it has a bunch of details, paintings and sculpture that resemble the Catholic religion. Inside the breathtaking church, where the father usually gives his sermon, the orchestra took their places surrounding the conductor. The cello and the percussion were in the back and the violins and the brass were in the front. They started to warm up as they did, big groups of people began to fill the seats.…

Standing on stage at The Kennedy Center singing to an audience of veterans, I realized my future accounting degree could combine my career with a valuable cause. After previously taking a high school finance course, I wanted to major in accounting. However, it was not until I participated in the 2015 National Memorial Day Choral Festival that I knew how to use it to serve those who have already served. When my choir director revealed the 2015 trip destination, I was overjoyed in anticipation of experiencing the nation’s capital for the first time in my life. As my choir started learning the festival music, I was awestruck by the dark lyrics of Ralph Vaughan Williams’ cantata “Dona Nobis Pacem” and inspired by others such as Mark Wilberg’s “Let Peace Then Still the Strife”.…
