The play uses foreshadowing to illustrate to the audience that something will happen in the future sections of the play which is implied but not happening yet. While the irony is that the character or narrator states something which is contradicted what the person did originally. This leads to Eddie Carbone’s downfall as the main character where it is foreshadowed that he will meet his doom at the hands of God. Even though Eddie loves his wife, Beatrice and Catherine and wants the best for them, he still is really protective of how he wants Catherine to live her life because she doesn’t have experience in the world. Overall, the moral of the play is that sometimes it best to let go of things that will drag you down and instead go for the light because betrayal can be a disastrous thing to both

For example, the costumes donned by Romeo and Juliet have heavy foreshadowing and irony. Romeo wore a knight costume – he is the night in shining armour, but it is ironic because he is not a violent, easily angered person. Juliet is wearing an angel costume – however beautiful, pure and holy angels are, they are indisputably linked to death. This foreshadows that even if they are together, violence, death and religion will be key players in their game of fate. Although the actors could have worn these costumes in the original play, the symbolism and irony would not have been as obvious.…
