Employment Projections It can be rather difficult to form an accurate prediction of where each occupation will stand in the years to come. Some jobs will be gone forever, and some will be continuously growing with no end in sight. The same goes with the occupation of logistics. There are several different ideas on where it will stand, a few are stated below.
From the years of 2014 to 2024, it is projected that employment of Logisticians will grow around two percent. This is slower than the average of all occupations (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2015). Ranging from external to internal, there are several aspects to look out for that could potentially impact this job. Examples of external market factors include globalization, which can be defined as the interaction among different nations, as well as any advances in technology. More external factors include environmental concerns and the challenging but rewarding nature of the work force itself (Society of Logistics Engineers, 2016). Aside from external factors, internal factors are also present and have the ability to impact the occupation of logistics. An example of an internal factor would be customer service and quality. This differs among each employer and who they hire to do each job. All it takes is one person to “mess up” and it can slow down something or effect the quality of a product. Supply chain management and third party networks are also included under internal factors. By controlling things such as performance, system structure, and technology integration, we can work to try and lessen the impact of these elements on this particular occupation. By managing performance, improved productivity and better customer services tend to be the outcome. It makes for a smooth process. Better performance also includes quick response times, and getting jobs done correctly and on time (Society of Logistics Engineers, 2016). Next to managing the performance in the workplace, looking at system structure can help lessen any potential large, destructive impact. System structure gives a better relationship between company and vendor, as well as with third parties. It helps for a more effective supply chain. Better relationships within an organization assist in ensuring everything is going as planned. Technology integration increases efficiency by combining information and material handling systems.
