In his book Who Wrote the Bible, Richard Friedman compares the interpretations of the bible through a theory model based on the authorship and composition of the Pentateuch or Torah. The Pentateuch or Torah is considered to be the first five books of the Bible within the Christian and Jewish faith. Those books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Customarily, these five books are taught to believers that these words symbolize the words God spoke to Moses. Friedman examines the JPED theory. JEPD are initials signifying the four theoretical sources or writers of the Pentateuch or Torah. The J stands for Jawist from Yahweh. Yahweh is dated to 850 B.C. Three books in the Pentateuch labels God as Yahweh. Genesis and a few parts of Exodus and Numbers. The name Yahweh, for God, was so sacred it wasn’t to be said. The theory is that God revealed to Moses four letters YHWH. The pronunciation of Yahweh is unclear. The E stands for Elohist from Elohim. It is dated to 750 B.C. Just like Jawist it found it covers the same area of the scripture. Elohist labels God as Elohim. The P stands for Priestly. It is dated to 500 B.C. This sources writings are dispersed from Genesis to Deuteronomy. …show more content…
It is dated to in the realm of 620 B.C. It is believed that Deuteronomy has its own author. In fact, the book of Deuteronomy is the most controversial books of the Bible. Nowhere in the Bible does it claim who the authors are nor does it state that only one person wrote a certain book. The book of Deuteronomy is said to be written by Moses also. Deuteronomy 1:1 states, “These are the words Moses spoke on the other side of Jordan.” Numbers 20:12 states, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.” Deuteronomy 32:48-52

However, there are sound reasons that affirm that Paul wrote Ephesians. First, the letter specifically claims to be Paul’s. Unless there is overwhelming contrary evidence, this should heavily weigh in on the debate. The early church, which rejected fake letters, unanimously accepted this letter as being written by Paul, and this was a city that had a reputation of having discernment regarding false apostolic claims (Rev. 2:2).…

Some commentaries, for example the Pulpit Commentary, have used this text to support the idea that the Pentateuch (the first five books of the Old Testament) could not have been written until after the split of the kingdom of Israel and probably several hundreds of years after that. Thus, Jeroboam could not have been quoting Aaron and simply used similar terminology that would seem the same of years of editing and translations (Spence 271). While this argument presents the idea that Jeroboam knew he was not starting a new cult or practice, there are also several arguments that the Pentateuch had to have been written for the Israelites to know the law. However,…

The Pentateuch is traditionally seen as the first five books of the Bible. Most refer to it as the Book of Moses or the Law of Moses. Traditionally it is seen as a law book, but it can also be viewed as a narrative. Most people interpret the Pentateuch, and the Old Testament in its entirety, as outdated and only relevant to Christians as a history book. John Sailhamer abolishes this point of view in his book about the Pentateuch, “Finding the Meaning in the Pentateuch.”…

The vocabulary, alleged dependence, personal references, and theological discrepancies could all be easily explained unlike the arguments for Pauline authorship. While there are many arguments for and against Pauline authorship, there are also many dates that have been thrown around based off of who wrote Ephesians, and where Ephesians was written. Basing the date off of Pauline authorship, who wrote it in his first imprisonment in Rome, it would be around A.D 60 to A.D 62. Knowing the date helps subdue the common misunderstanding of the location that the letter was meant to go, even though it says “To the Ephesians” in the beginning of the book of Ephesians. This…

They do a great job of examining each little thing that God does towards Adam and Eve. Such as, God showing his immense love for his creations by giving Adam a partner after realizing that Adam was lonely because all of the other animals had a partner to be with as read in Genesis 2:18-25.…

Throughout the entire course of history, the Bible and its contents have been contested. In the past people believed in different gods, and today many people believe that there is no God. Once someone has denied what the Bible says, they are forced to believe in something else. Many scholars have attacked the Bible itself and claimed that it is false. One way that they do that is by denying that Moses wrote the Pentateuch and that the stories found within are fiction.…
