Who Wrote The Bible Analysis

In his book Who Wrote the Bible, Richard Friedman compares the interpretations of the bible through a theory model based on the authorship and composition of the Pentateuch or Torah. The Pentateuch or Torah is considered to be the first five books of the Bible within the Christian and Jewish faith. Those books are Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Customarily, these five books are taught to believers that these words symbolize the words God spoke to Moses. Friedman examines the JPED theory. JEPD are initials signifying the four theoretical sources or writers of the Pentateuch or Torah. The J stands for Jawist from Yahweh. Yahweh is dated to 850 B.C. Three books in the Pentateuch labels God as Yahweh. Genesis and a few parts of Exodus and Numbers. The name Yahweh, for God, was so sacred it wasn’t to be said. The theory is that God revealed to Moses four letters YHWH. The pronunciation of Yahweh is unclear. The E stands for Elohist from Elohim. It is dated to 750 B.C. Just like Jawist it found it covers the same area of the scripture. Elohist labels God as Elohim. The P stands for Priestly. It is dated to 500 B.C. It is dated to in the realm of 620 B.C. It is believed that Deuteronomy has its own author. In fact, the book of Deuteronomy is the most controversial books of the Bible. Nowhere in the Bible does it claim who the authors are nor does it state that only one person wrote a certain book. The book of Deuteronomy is said to be written by Moses also. Deuteronomy 1:1 states, “These are the words Moses spoke on the other side of Jordan.” Numbers 20:12 states, “Because you did not trust in me enough to honor me as holy in the sight of the Israelites, you will not bring this community into the land I give them.” Deuteronomy 32:48-52
