The mission was called Apollo 11 were Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin were the first humans to ever step foot on the moon. Armstrong attended college and served in the korean war. Later he joined a group which would later developed to become Nasa. “He joined the astronaut program in 1962 and was command pilot for his first mission, Gemini VIII, in 1966”.(Bio). This later led him to become the spacecraft commander for apollo 11. beside being famous for the first man to lay a foot on the moon. He also said this when he took his first step on the moon. Aldrin was born January 20, 1930 in Glen Ridge New Jersey. His real name is Edwin Eugene Aldrin Jr but his sister mispronounced brother and buzzer and his family shorten it for Buzz. “His father, a colonel in the U.S. Air Force, encouraged his interest in flight. Aldrin became a fighter pilot and flew in the Korean War.”(Bio). his special study of rendezvous help him earn a spot in the space program in 1963. Aldrin did not just do the Apollo 11 mission in 1966 he was part of the gemini 12 where he performed the longest and most successful space walk that took a total of 5 hours. like Neil armstrong after apollo 11 aldrin struggled with alcoholism and depression. This was a huge factor in his divorce which happened 1974. from their he has had two failed marriages since. One that resulted in him losing have of his possessions to his ex wife. Overall Aldrin was a big part in the Apollo 11 mission but suffered some after the mission due to alcohol and
