Equality in the American Dream
The American Dream is defined as “the ideals of freedom, equality, and opportunity traditionally held to be available to every American and a life of personal happiness and material comfort as traditionally sought by individuals in the U.S.” So, how does issue of race, class, and/or gender affect one’s understanding about the American Dream? Not every one’s perspective on the America Dream is ideally the same as the stereotype would say it is so why should any human bean be discriminated by the color of their skin, rather if they are a female or male, or by how much money they have in their pockets?
Martin Luther King Jr. once said that “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.” Today’s society is beginning to become like Marin Luther’s time. Where the United States has gone completely insane after Trump has become President of the United States. I know a few colored people are afraid of the next four years because of what Trump’s promises to his voters. Like for example sending all the Mexicans back to Mexico because they believe in something different or they don’t have a white skin color. Each individual sees it differently than most and how we live our everyday routines is our definition of the American Dream. Living different lies and experiencing different cultural events and seeing the world for what it’s all about than what’s expected. Lastly, have you ever wonder how the person you called poor has nothing to eat at home? Making fun of a boy for playing with dolls when he gets beat up every day by boys on the football team.
