This model created a frame work for the clinicians to implement the health promotion and disease prevention interventions. In Trans theoretical model, the core constructs are, six stages through which the behavior change occurs, ten processes involved in the progression through six stages, decisional balance, self-efficacy, and temptation. In adopting or quitting a behavior an individual progress through stages of pre-contemplation, contemplation, planning or preparation, action , maintenance and termination. This comprises the phase of no intention to take action, then intends to change, then making small changes or sporadic changes, further into actively engage in behavior change and to the maintenance stage in which the behavior will be sustained and finally into the termination stage where people have zero temptation and 100% self-efficacy, thus no matter what the surroundings are, will sustain the behavior change. Considering the concept of decisional balance, the behavior should occur when the pros outweigh the cons. While, the individual progresses through different stages of behavior change, the self- efficacy will shift to 100 % in termination state. According to this model, an individual passes through stages of behavior change via different process of change, includes consciousness raising, dramatic relief, environmental …show more content…
Various theories and models have been developed in order to accomplish the set goals and objectives. The theories and models of health promotion facilitate the clinician to assess and predict the outcomes related to the behavior changes. Of these two theories I would choose trans theoretical model to implement health promotion interventions because behavior change occurs over time, and an individual travels through various stages before reaching the goal. Thus, it is important for me as a health care provider to identify, which stage an individual is, and can provide stage appropriate interventions to effectively progress towards the goal. However, self- efficacy is a major construct in both theories, thus both theories can aid in the implementation of health promotion
