Aging Population Problems

Describe a social problem that relates to social justice The aging population is a social problem that relates to social justice that I recently gain interest in working closely with. As aging is inevitable we all have go through this stage in life after retirement, which we have to rely on our social security and/or 401k plan to assist with our daily life activities. Reflecting over the course of my undergraduate’s studies, I am passionate about working with this population to ensure that independency and dignity is not forgotten about. Personally, I feel that the aging population should not feel that they are being treated as a burden by the government or their families. It is my responsibility as a social worker to provide a service clients in need and to advocate on their behalf to ensure that dignity and worth of a person is maintain especially for the aging population. Pursing social justice will include educating older adults, their family members and the community about resources available. Gaining competence through my undergraduate studies, I am able to address the issues the aging population face by educating myself about the issue and mistreatment then constructing a solution with the help of the Older American Act to promote awareness.
Describe your goals in the social work profession. My goals with the social work profession is to earn a Master of Social Work degree in a concertation in Health/Clinical health. With this degree, I plan to obtain my LCSW certification so that I will be able to assess, diagnose, and construct intervention for those with mental disability or health issues in general.
