With or Without You Paper
1. Discuss the differences in the two days? What did you notice? The differences I noticed in the two days was the amount of time I had during the day when I did not use technology. The day in which I used technology I felt like my day went by faster. Another difference was the amount of physical activities I did between the two days. The day without technology I found myself doing more cardio exercise and spent time outside, I was more productive physically. In addition, I found myself doing more productive activities such as cleaned my room, reviewed my notes and did more chores around the house that I typically procrastinate. Another huge difference was the amount of free time I had on the day with technology, I found when I get bored I watch Netflix, play videogames or go on YouTube to kill some time. While the day without technology I did not have any of these activities and had to go out of my way to find thins to do, for example instead of watching Netflix, I decided to read a book.

I would say the norm of society is that majority of our citizens are hooked to technology and social media. I use social media and technology every single day for hours and majority of other people do the same. The idea that our society is hooked to technology and communication media is sad, we are becoming a more introverted society that relies a lot on technology to help us with our daily activities. This assignment made me realize how much time I spend on technology and how many times I use my technology sources to look up information for examples and how to do activities

Teens Hooked on Screens debate if teenagers obsessively abuse the Internet and technology. Despite what Chris Bergman says in Don’t Limit Your Teen’s Screen Time and Danah Boyd says in Blame Society, Not the Screen Time, teens do inappropriately obsess over technology and the Internet. Boyd proficiently explains that teens use technology to interact with their friends because schoolwork completely consumes them. Whereas Bergman elaborates that technology is beneficial because it allows kids to learn essential life skills, such as spending money. Although they both make valid points, their overall reasoning is flawed.…

When vacationing in Peru I was unable to use most of my technology I had. However, it allowed me to enjoy it more without the distractions. I was able to bond more with the people there and had a great time. Every year I volunteer at a camp for 3 weeks where no technology is allowed and it did not affect my attitude and did not take away any enjoyment of being at camp. I can adapt to different settings very easily mostly because I don't have much preference to temperature or foods so most people describe me as someone who is very easy going and willing to try new things easily.…

On Friday the 16th of October I went unplugged for 24 hours, and found it surprisingly uneventful. I had one minor slip up where I started looking at a phone because I was talking to a person who was getting the proper spelling for words off his phone. Other than that I did not notice a difference from my normal life. For the most part, I spend my time talking to people in person so that is what I did well unplugged. The biggest challenge was making sure I had my school work done before hand because everything has to be turned in online.…

Throughout the past decade American culture has adapted to utilizing Social media as a popular form of communication and information. In Brian Williams’ “Enough About You”, Williams believes that American culture has become motivated by the desire to celebrate one’s self, which he explains as the User-Generated Generation. Social media has been beneficial to American culture in terms of communication but it has also been harmful in terms of health and safety. It has improved methods of communication and applications designed for communication purposes, by expanding the range of available delivery channels. Earlier this month I attempted the task of going 24 hours without technology. We had to look at the effects that technology had on us, and at the feelings we had during and after the event. I have to admit it was hard to undergo this task, I am a freshmen in college, and I find that I use technology everyday almost all day long. I wanted to take it a step farther and see what it’s like being a high school student and how much technology they use in a day, and what they use it for. Technology is always growing into something bigger and better.…
