After I graduated from college, I started interning at the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office, Victim Services Division. At the District Attorney’s Office, I Spent my time there learning the about the criminal prosecution process, and assisting victims of violent crimes navigate their way through the criminal justice system. I have also mentored troubled youth during my stint at the DA’s office. My time at the DA’s office was very beneficial because I got to learn directly from assistant district attorneys about different types of law and their application in a specific crime. After spending a decent amount of time at the DA’s Office, I realized how beneficial a legal advocate can be in a community. I have seen an overabundance of thankfulness when people in a community see that there is an experienced person with a law background that could help them and also is looking out for their best interest; they have a sense of relief and a voice. The average person doesn’t have the skill sets needed to navigate the legal system, so that is why there are lawyers. People put their faith in lawyers when they have to go through the legal system because people believe that lawyer will be their voice throughout the process.
