The most important of these things that remained untold in the first novel is that the resistance organisation of which Zorz/Zoe was a member during the Occupation was in fact the EPON. In 1974 gone were the restrictions that forced Sari to self-censor her previous novel and tiptoe around her involvement in the EAM youth wing. In Κόκκινη κλωστή δεμένη Sari can at long last admit without fear that she was in the EAM resistance and after decades of stumbling onto ‘a tall and dark wall of silence’ she can now exclaim through the character of Eirini: ‘Now, who were those free people who liberated Greece? It was us, father. It was us who fought for four years. We risked our lives.’ This is another aspect that differentiates Sari’s novel from the narratives of all other writers that have been discussed so far.
