Zoroastrianism's View Of Good And Evil

Decent Essays
Ocean seems to have a strong "spiritual" attraction to me. Not only because I have seen so many times cremated body scattered in the sea, but also because I grew up in one of the largest island countries. Ocean brought me a good feeling, sometimes sad feeling, and even scary feeling, it really depends on the place I am visiting and my mood. Also in Indonesia, there is something called queen of the sea named Nyai Roro Kidul in the west Java sea, which is about four hour drive from my hometown. I never visit that place yet, but I would like to someday. It will probably be scary to me, but I kind of want to know if the spiritual things are really like what the media say.
I agree and disagree with Zoroastrianism's view of Good and Evil as equal

Liminal Shores, Agential Oceans After being reminded of Hayao Miyazaki’s film Ponyo in Mel Y. Chen’s Animacies, I became interested in the liminal or transitional properties of the seashore in Ponyo and A Tale for the Time Being. At the beginning of Ponyo, a young boy named Sōsuke finds the titular character as a fish trapped in a glass jar near the seashore. He breaks her free, slightly cutting himself, and Ponyo licks his cut and begins her transmogrification from fish into chicken, into little human girl. Chen argues that, “The fish/chicken/little girl is far from a binary logic; she is a blending that is partial and contingent and enacted across time”…

The ocean covers around 70% of the world, contains hundreds of thousands of life forms, and many that have yet to be discovered. Although, we can learn a lot in the classroom environment, there is no better way to understand the marine environment than to physically explore it. The field trip to Virginia Key Beach Park was a great experience. The park is located minutes from downtown Miami and just off the Rickenbacker Causeway. Me being from Texas I had to do some research for the history of the park.…

In Perelandra, the second book of C.S. Lewis’ The Space Trilogy, there are many parallels drawn between the character of the Un-Man and evil in our world, especially when recalling the third chapter of Genesis, describing Adam and Eve and the Fall of Man. The Un-Man in Perelandra is the Devil manifesting himself in the character of Weston’s body, just as the Devil manifested himself in the Serpent in the story of Adam and Eve. In Genesis Chapter three, the Devil manifests himself in the form of a Serpent. Similarly, in Perelandra, the Devil possesses Weston’s body and uses his physical body as a means to disguise himself in order to attempt to bring evil and chaos into the perfect and unfallen world of Perelandra.…

Often times we talk to individuals about their favorite vacation spot or where the place they feel the most at rest is; the response we get most often is the ocean. This is because the ocean is restorative. The quiet roar of the waves, the sound of seagulls chirping, the salty breeze, the ocean is a place of peace. For many the sea is not just a vacation destination, but the sea is a friend. Something that is consistent, and always listening.…

Everyone has a place that is special to them, and mine is Blue Marsh Lake in Reading Pennsylvania. Blue Marsh is a serene and calming place that is without the traffic sounds of everyday life. As soon as I step out of the vehicle at Blue March Lake, the warm sun on my skin and the sounds of the water engulfs me in a blanket of peace. Whenever I head out to this special lake, I know I can prepare myself for complete relaxation. Another reason I enjoy Blue Marsh is it sounds so different than the city which is what adds to the calming effect.…

Genesis is established as being the beginning of everything and being all good but there is also the portrayal and interpretation of evil in the creation. In the genesis of evil, Dr. Altizer explains that the origin of evil is “unknown and as orthodox as the origin of god” (Altizer 80). The journal explains how Genesis contains several indirect interpretations of the portrayal of evil in genesis. One of the first interpretations of evil is seen when Adam and Eve sinned in Eden and turned away from God causing them to bring sin to the world. Dr. Altizer explains that this concept is true but it absolves God from bringing evil into the world to hold it as Adam and Eve introducing evil into the world.…

There is a famous passage in Second Isaiah, composed during or after the Exile, which is sometimes cited as a Jewish rebuke to the Zoroastrian idea of a dualistic God: "I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things." (Isaiah 45:7) This passage, which is a major source for Jewish speculation on the source of good and evil in the world, denies the Zoroastrian idea of a God who is the source only of "good" and favorable things. The philosophical minds of the two cultures may indeed have recognized each other as fellow monotheists, but this central Jewish doctrine is one which was not learned from the Zoroastrians.…

Of course there is the beach itself too. The beach is where most of the daytime is spent riding waves, tanning, learning to skim board, building sand castles, and occasionally going sand crabbing in the evening. These may seem like insignificant places and memories but one thing that they have in common is that in all of them I was enjoying being a carefree, happy,…

“Believers stand at the overlap of two kingdoms. In this space, Christians experience the grief of this world in the face of evil and suffering while at the same time affirming the promises of Christian hope while grounded in the resurrection of Christ” (as cited in Burge & Lauber, 2014, p.81) This is a quote from Martin Luther that appears within the reading. This quote really resonated with me because it truly captures the battle that occurs within Christians, especially with regards to the concept of evil.…
