In turn you learn more about yourself while trying to prove who you really are. Hurston was able to realize that she can be whatever she wants to be as long as goes about it confidently. She focused on not letting herself down because of what her ancestors went through in the past by being her own person today that is capable of achieving many things. All anyone needed to realize is that even though some people may live differently but if you show interest in them and are respectful then they will return the favor towards your personal life choices.
In evaluating what people expect from me at first I learned a lot of good things about others and a lot of bad things as well. I realized how quick to judgements people are with how you dress and present yourself even though it might not always accurately depict your personality. I experienced how fun it was to be something other than what people expected from me to be and having interests in things that stray what people expect and it surprises them. The biggest lesson I got was to not let other’s opinions of me and my lifestyle change how I feel about myself and what I choose to do with my time and
