We all should be aware of our own biases and prejudices; this is just one of the numerous themes in the Disney/Pixar film, Zootopia directed by Bryon Howard, Rich Moore and Jared Bush. The film connects the themes through the city of Zootopia, a place where anyone can be anything. All animals inhabit Zootopia to make a life and to be something other than: prey or predators. Despite the cohesion in the city the two groups exists and each animal identifies with one. Throughout the movie, there are demonstrated prejudices and discrimination brought to light.

This was prevalent in the film, for example, Assistant Mayor Bellwether and little small cute sheep who looked seemingly innocent but because she found herself at the hands of predators all the time and quickly grew a disdain for them especially since she had to stand behind Mayor Lionheart who is a predator. The audience of the film is blinded by its own heuristics that they become unaware of the underlying motive of Bellwether, which is a disadvantage of categorizing others, we lose important information about that

This article, written by Margaret Lazarus basically discusses her views on a popular movie at this time, The Lion King. She begins by talking about how excited she and her sons are to see the newly released box-office record breaking Walt Disney movie. Shortly after, she jumps right into discussing how stereotypical and prejudiced the movie is. She claims that it is stereotypical and prejudiced against African Americans, gays, and even the ghettos of current society. She points out that the golden-maned “good” lion presents his first born male child to the others of the ecosystem or animal kingdom, and they all pay tribute to this lion cub, who will one day be their king.…

She is a sly, merciless, and unlawful character who hides behind her small physique and kindly persona. The physical qualities of animal characters typically dictate their personality or characteristics, so basic character traits are seen very often in the media. However, Zootopia manages to break these stereotypical character archetypes, surprising the audience at multiple moments throughout the film. Despite the constant reminder that people should not be judged solely by their looks, most individuals make assumptions about a person’s character based on stereotypes and stigmas. However, these are not always true.…

The movie “To Kill a Mocking bird” started very interesting. It already started with a stereotype, as the book would describe called “The Social Animal” by Elliot Aronson on page 309. The three children in the movie pointed out there was a crazy guy who was walking around in their neighborhood. He was basically judged, based on his looks. He had scars on his face and his teeth were yellow.…

Have you ever wondered what a story would be like without some of the minor characters? You most likely wouldn’t know the main character’s personality as well right? A subordinate character has an important role in the story without being the protagonist. In “The Most Dangerous Game”, “A Worn Path”, and “A Rose for Emily”, all have subordinate characters that contribute to making the story understandable. Richard Connell’s short story, “The Most Dangerous Game”, starts off with the protagonist, Sanger Rainsford, having a conversation with Whitney about hunting.…

Marie von Ebner-Eschenbach, once said “In youth, we learn; in age, we understand.” Youth is a time of learning and is most defined as the period after childhood and before adulthood. During youth, there are times of teamwork, but there are times to stand on one’s own self. Short stories send messages to the youth of growing into one’s true self through trials in life. Moreover, protagonists from young adult short stories demonstrate themes of individuality and acting on one’s own self through situations of opposition from others.…

All animals hunt for survival, yet humans have developed a beastly way to make a game of it. In this sport, hunters thrive on the misfortune or weakness of others, while prey often forfeit the opportunity to avenge their attackers before it is too late. In rare occasions, the hunted will revolt and strike back, leaving the hunter astonished. This is best illustrated in Richard Connell’s, “The Most Dangerous Game,” when animal hunter Rainsford takes an unexpected journey to the house of General Zaroff, a hunter of an unusual prey, and is lured into playing a very deadly game of man versus man -- or man versus “beast.” Rainsford originally reveals no sympathy for his bounty of beasts, but upon becoming prey himself, Rainsford begins to transform…

This organization never broke the law in obtaining what few wild orcas they own. Most of the orcas in SeaWorld have been born using their groundbreaking breeding program and have never experienced the ocean, pollution, or hunger.…

Although the causation of fear changed from the 1600s to 1850, the conceptual understanding of fear itself had not changed. This can be observed in the texts The Scarlet Letter, A narrative of Frederick Douglass, and Civil Disobedience which take place or were published in the mid 1600s, mid 1700s, and the mid 1800s. All the literary works mentioned show or express some type of fear that influences the actions of society. And yet the cause of this fear is different for each book corresponding to a different time period, they all maintain the same basic understanding of fear.…

As a toddler, Monsters Inc. taught me not to judge things or people without giving them a chance. Within the movie, fear and bias based on that fear drives the chaos that occurs. In the monster world, their society trains them to believe that humans are dangerous and evil, however they lacked experience involving interactions with humans, aside from scaring children in their sleep. By creating this fear, they establish a bias against humans, closing their mind off to sympathizing or understanding humans. However, once Boo’s presence forces Sully and Mike to recognize and mentally grasp that humans and monsters resemble each other at the core, the bias ingrained in them disappears and they forms a connection with Boo.…

Predator and prey are able to live in harmony after predators were able to overcome their biological urge to hunt prey. Once predators overcame their “savage ways”, the world became civilized.…
