Zoos Live Longer In Captivity

Improved Essays
Zoos are often criticized for having improper requirements. But most zoos have natural habitats in them and They have a big domain. I believe that zoos are helping save animals lives.

My first reason is that they live longer. It has been scientifically proven that most animals live longer in captivity. The average wild turkey vulture lives to be nine years old. The average turkey vulture in captivity lives to be 12 years old. That just proves that captivity is better for most animals.

My second reason is to save endangered animals. When you put an animal in a zoo it eradicates all risks of them getting eaten by other animals or hunted by humans. The rhino is also endangered because it is hunted for its tusks. When you put a rhino in a zoo

The question of the impact of captivity on animals remains one of the most challenging and controversial over the several decades. Some people disagree that zoos are an important part of animals conservation as they believe sanctuaries in animal's native habitat would bring more positive results as animals suffer from the constant human presence and lack of space. Others argue that zoos provide animals with even better conditions than in the wild and that without zoos many conservation programs would not exist so that for endangered species it is better to live in captivity than become extinct. Both opinions can exist as there are many zoos in the world and their facilities contrast greatly. It is obvious that ill-designed zoos does not serve…

Though, I know the establishment of zoos gave people the opportunity to see and learn about different animals from around the world, they play a role in animal conservation and education. It is a way of preserving species of animals that may become extinct in the future. What we do not realize is by keeping these animals in confinement, it is an act of cruelty and we do not know what takes place behind the scenes of the shows and displays of these animals. Studies have indicated that confined animals living with uncommon social groups, different climates, and unsuitable diets, unlike animals living in the wild, can lead to animals suffering from psychological and physical problems such as zoochosis. Zoochosis is a kind of behavior common in…

Have you ever been to a zoo and seen happy, protected animals? Well, that happens all the time at most zoos. When you are younger, it seems like zoos are all about entertainment, but really the zoos are protecting the animals. In “The Stripes will Survive,” they create comfortable spaces for the animals, and use a family tree for selective breeding, and they keep away poachers. In “The Zoos Go Wild,” they made the habitat bigger, they put Willie the gorilla with 3 other women, and they kept him in a large habitat.…

In these zoos, animals are treated cruelly and are killed for no reason, animals go through mental/psychological disorders, and lack the nutritious values that are only given to them in the wild. These reasons prove that zoos need to be shut down and these helpless animals deserve to live and thrive in the environment and habitat they come from. It is disturbing to think of how positive zoos are seen and how they are a popular attraction for people of all ages. Next time people go to a zoo, they should look closely at these animals and see the misery and depression in their…

Have you ever realized how zoo animals live? Imagine seeing an elephant in the zoo just standing there doing nothing, but then in movies and pictures you see them always walking and playing just always doing something. They don't have that choice in the zoo. Animals should not be kept in zoos or in captivity because they don't have the life they would have in their natural habitat, they are not taken care of well and they are not happy.…

Zoos protect animals from these dangers and can help reintroduce endangered species back into the wild. “Quite simply without these efforts there would be fewer species alive today and ecosystems and the world as a whole would be poorer for it.” (Source D). These conservation efforts are important to the environment as the extinction of one species could devastate an entire ecosystem. Zoos are able to take care of animals much better than these animals can on their own.…

Many species are going extinct or becoming endangered in the wild (theguardian.com). By having these animals in zoos it is keeping them form going completely extinct. The animals may not survive in the wild due to natural causes such as being hunted by predators, natural weather patterns, or becoming sick or injured.
