If I found ladybugs in the wilderness I would have put them in multiple boxes that I made. My teacher Ms. Julie brought me ladybugs from a gardening store. There were 18,000 estimate ladybugs in the bag container I received. I than placed approximately two sets of 600 ladybugs in each home-made habitat I created. I also placed one set of 600 ladybugs in a flower a pot outside. I placed the containments in three different areas in order to test how temperature affected activity of the ladybugs over a period of seven days. I used the house thermometer to measure the ladybugs inside, and the garage thermometer to measure those in the garage. I measured activity by if they were crawling, number of aphids eaten and if they were flying. The first group was labeled Group Y and placed inside pine canyon house above the fire place. The second group was labeled Group Z and placed in the garage. The third group was labeled Group A and was placed outside in a flower pot. Group X was the undisturbed wild ladybugs in the …show more content…
The bottom of the door frame was still attached to the box so that it opened horizontally. I placed approximately a 6 cm long piece of pine tree inside of the box in the right hand corner along with rocks scattered amongst the bottom. I positioned a linden stick so that the stick was vertically lying against the left side front corner. Beside the stick lay an unknown weed plant. I cut a plastic miniature water cup so only the base remained. I dropped two drops in the base so it was filled to the rim using an eye dropper. I went to my orchid I collected two leaves of a cabbage plant that displayed a very an abundant number of aphids I placed one inside each box. I covered the box with 25 cm width * 29cm long saran wrap. I spread it out so that the whole open side of the box was covered and so I could see clearly in to the box (no wrinkles). I tapped all sides of the wrap to the box. Finally I used a sewing needle to make small air holes in the saran wrap. The lady bugs entered through the door. The second box was fairly similar the only difference was the second box was 25cm long times 13 cm wide. The third group was not in a box. They were placed in an unknown flower pot. Nothing kept them from getting a way. I used an app on my family teachers phone to tell the temperature.
Data/Results
Group Y was longest living and the most active.
