The hypothalamus “controls maintenance, functions such as eating; helps govern endocrine system; linked to emotion and reward” (Myers, 68). Hypothalamus can be overdriven in a zombie to the point where hunger is the main purpose and the other functions are not so important. Through genetic mutation and affecting the hypothalamus, zombies’ hunger living beings to sustain them. Hypothalamus also regulates body temperate, water intake, and even influences the endocrine system which sends messages to the pituitary gland that controls homeostasis in the body. If the hypothalamus is working at full capacity, but altered, then the link to emotion and reward would also be altered. Zombies would not have regular emotions, and that can be related back to the limbic system, more importantly the hippocampus and amygdala. The hippocampus works with the amygdala to form emotion with memories, but since zombies have a long-term memory loss, they cannot formally create emotions. However, a main emotion that can be seen in a zombie is aggression. They are aggressive due to their drive of hunger. They do not stop looking or trying to get their food. They are persistent and will try to breakdown doors, break windows, and barge through anything that may be in between them and their meal. They even have a diminished sense of
