If we are talking about zombies in the past like 1800s or lower, we connect zombies with what we call black magic or voodoo. Which brings me to technically say the zombies originated in Africa with Haitian voodoo, and that Haitian created the word zombie as a Kongo word for soul “nzambi”. Although reporting of dead people rising from their graves originates farther back, but I think this was beginning of zombies we know of today. I believe to be a zombie you must be dead or appear to be dead. I do not think that eating flesh is necessary, because I feel as if that involves more of cannibalism. What I think the Haitians were explaining that zombies are consider people who have lost souls, and this is a phase of life that people went through. Zombies are dead in the inside, but alive on the outside. This definition can correlate with some modern-day zombie’s movies like Warm Bodies. The storyline in this movie talk about a man-zombie who narrates his life how he doesn’t remember on how he became a zombie, and the point of being a zombie. He then meets a girl, who eventually ends bringing him back to life/human. Almost as if she gave him his soul by feelings and emotions.
