“Travis, because you are 14 I’ll teach you how to use a gun” I said sighing.
“I have been waiting for this moment scene dad taught you” he said excitedly.
“I told you not to talk about dad” I yelled. “His name will not be used in this household.” I paused “forget it, I’ll teach you tomorrow.”
“No” Travis yelled “you have to teach me today, you promised”
“Fine” I said in a soft tone “we have to go now or else it will too dark.” If we didn’t start today he would be mad and not talk to me for a week. He raced towards the back door as fast as he could. “Slow down I’m not in the mood for running” I yelled at him so he could hear me.
“You’re going too slow” he yelled back excitedly as he was running to the shooting range almost tripping over

You are learning just as fast as I did, if you do well tomorrow you can practice shooting zombies”
“I thought you said I was not going to be ready for a few months”
“I was lying so you could train harder. So you would push to learn as quickly as you could. Let’s have lunch right now, it’s about noon and I’m hungry.”
“I’m hungry to, I’ve done well enough to deserve a break” he said proudly.
“I have the last of our bread, I have been saving it for a special occasion like this”
“Isn’t there more at the store” Travis asked surprised.
“The store is almost out of food but there is another store in the next town” I lied, there is no other town. We might have to leave in a week or two because our food supply is getting low. “I’ll go there next time and get some more.” I hate lying to him but I can’t tell him the truth.
We finished our bread and then I taught Travis some more things and gave him all the tips I could. Then we headed into the barn because we used up our ammo that I saved for the day.
“I want to shoot more” Travis said whining. “Why can’t use more ammo”
“If we did we would have less for tomorrow. You will enjoy tomorrow more than today.”
“Tell me more about mom” he sighed “I wish I was old enough to remember

This Side of Paradise is often referred as a kind of fictionalized personal memoir of F. Scott Fitzgerald because of all the similarities between Fitzgerald and protagonist, Amory Blaine, from their privileged childhood to their experiences in Princeton and even some of their romantic relationships. The first novel of one of the leaders of the Lost Generation not only mimics the life of this author, but also mimics the livelihood of the time. This book repeatedly shows the loss and loneliness, confusion and worthlessness that many had felt between and during the World Wars. Possibly as a result of this loss of hope, shallowness and narcissism is often demonstrated in many characters, like the traits possessed in people of the time. Lastly,…
