World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War – Homework 2 As we get further into the novel, there are a lot of zombie themes that become very clear. One theme I noticed was the failure of technology and the reverting to older, medieval-like weapons and traditions. This idea strongly presents itself in the interview with David Forbes who talks about humanities use of castles and medieval customs for survival. Technology in a lot of instances became useless since resources such as ammunition were limited in some areas. This caused the people to find other weapons for protection.…

Marksmanship with the Crossbow is the outmost importance due to the zombie’s nature. The only way to completely kill a zombie is dismembering the brain, by either completely destroying it or severing the connection to the spine. Referencing the more famous TV show in America right now which has zombies in it, Daryl Dixon, a character who strictly uses the Crossbow in The Walking Dead, he personally uses the crossbow at his own discretion. It’s his main squeeze and babies it rightly so, because he uses it for both long and close range kills. Perfect for the zombie apocalypse, because honestly did you really train before this?…

The simplicity of a zombie's life is often a state humans try to achieve. A zombie's daily life and nutrition revolves around their desire for human flesh, blood and brains. Since the collapse of human society, pesky worries like the weather, school, anxiety, appearance, or the office meeting are of zero concern now. They lack a nervous system so pain and head injuries don't ever cross their dead minds. The main reason zombies are used is because they evoke fear. The fear that is felt while watching the film or reading the book is directly related to something terrible that is happening in the world at that time.
