The video game industry, for example, Call of Duty, has capitalized on zombies, the movie and television industry are using the allure of an apocalypse as a way to make money, like in The Walking Dead, and Zombieland, and even our novels are being infested with the idea of zombies, like in the book from our class, World War Z. How are Americans not supposed to get caught up in the fad of zombies, when it is circulating all around them everywhere they look? Fifteen years ago people would have probably laughed at the thought of a zombie apocalypse, but in recent years it’s been hard to ignore and not wonder about the “what ifs” if they did not see it all over the media, and see commercials advertising survival kits that their friends and family are all buying up. See all these prompts, you do have to wonder what would really happen if we had an apocalypse, and once you do, you cannot help but be fearful of such a structure less and violent event. Robert M. Entman wrote an article in a scholarly journal titled “How the Media Affect What People Think: An Information Processing Approach,” in which he does a study over just how much media affects us and who is affected most. It showed that liberals and conservative people (which is a lot of our country) are affected most by media because they are trusting and they are able to keep an open mind when it comes to helping our world. In our history we have had many presidents, like Kennedy, George W. Bush, and now Obama promise us many things that they cannot deliver. These are the most recent presidents, but certainly not all. Each of them offered up ideas and ideals that seemed to be bullet proof and extraordinary solutions to the problems in our country, while all of them have fallen short in some way or another. Most of politics only goes your way if you believe in the person pushing the ideas, and the political figures are willing to help you only for your loyalty and your vote. Because we are so diverse as a country, our views differ and tensions rise with every election. More and more we see that this diversity and distrust/ hatred towards our government is making our society one chaotic place to live. With the increase in mass shootings, suicides, wars, and other violent crimes, it is reasonable to hand the blame of the direction we are headed to our country heads. Through the years our government has promised more and delivered less, causing our society to rise up in arms, become more chaotic, and less trusting, and that has then caused our darkest fears as a society to come to light and we see that our morbid
