When a person is infected with Zika virus, he or she could either have no symptoms or mild symptoms. Fever, rash, joint pain and conjunctivitis (red eyes) are the most common symptoms. Currently, there is not a vaccine for Zika virus. Zika virus could be spread through mosquito bites. Protecting yourselves from mosquito bites is an effective way to prevent becoming infected with Zika virus. To avoid mosquito bites, you could wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants. Proper insect repellent is helpful as well. People could get Zika virus through sex. Using a condom decreases the possibility of sexual transmission of Zika virus2.
