Ziesmer: My Reflection On My Writing

Decent Essays
Reflection: I learned from Ziesmer was how to focus on my tone. How you can work your tone to give the paper its true meaning. I wrote multiple drafts on this paper. I took many different approaches until a found a way to tell a story in a way that was meaningful without being boring. I usually just write one draft and then revise it and turn it in, I never have had to do multiple drafts so that was something different for me. I usually don’t go and get help on my papers, but for this paper I seeked help from my cousin, my friend (a former AP language student), and the writing center. By seeking help from all those people they all gave different opinions on it and really helped to make my paper better. I did not conference with you which are something I kind …show more content…
I think this is definitely a paper I took a lot of time on. I still don’t believe it is my best paper I think it could have been better-I just didn’t really know how to make it better. I got a lot of positive feedback about the paper, but for me I just don’t feel it was my best. I’m more use to writing about a story or a story about myself. I never have wrote a story where I couldn’t just t talk about me and call it a paper. With this paper it was more of a focus on the greater meaning being an experience which is something I’ve never really done. It made me more careful on how I approached my essay, and I think that is one of the reasons I had to make so many drafts. I tried to show how we all grow up and things change witch I think a lot of people can relate to this. I feel because everyone has experienced change in their life the audience would be able to connect this to their life. The structure of my paper was really quite hard. I didn’t know if I wanted to start with a flashback or start with how it was back when I was a kid and how it is now. Finding the perfect structure was probably the toughest part of this

Zdeno Chara isn’t about individual goals, or any bright, shiny trophies that don’t answer to the first name Stanley. But the Bruins captain is also unfailingly honest with himself and the media when he speaks, and even Chara admitted that scoring 20 goals this season and winning his second Norris Trophy are things that he would thoroughly enjoy. “I wouldn’t say that I’ve always wanted to do it, but it would be nice to reach 20 [goals]. It’s not on my priority list that I need to score two, or three, or four goals and reach 20,” said Chara.…

The nonfiction book On Writing Well by William Zinsser is about nothing more than what the title itself implies it to be. The book is divided into four parts: “principles,” “methods,” “forms,” and “attitudes.” The first part is about how to write with simplicity so that the reader will understand by removing unnecessary words and putting the right ones with the right meaning for what is trying to be said. Overall, doing so without having to completely take away the parts that give style to our writing. The second part is about the structure of writing; Zinsser gives helpful information on how writing should begin and how it should end.…

Writing my first paper in English 15 made me realize that I had so many areas when I can improve, but also, that there are many resources available to help you succeed. During the course of English 15 and the concepts that I learned in class, I realized that I was trying to make my first paper something that it could not be. The reason that I say this is because I didn't fully understand the college level of writing and the complexities of the writing process at the start of the…

I believe that I have the potential to be a good writer, as I wrote a seven-page research paper on the way children are becoming more intelligent with the use of the internet, as they have the ability to look up an answer to a question they do not know anytime of the day. I had an easy time writing the paper because we went over everything that needed to be in it beginning with an attention grabbing thesis and ending with a powerful conclusion. I flew through writing the paper, which made me confident that I was going to get a good grade (and I did), it made me feel that I had improved my writing abilities. I also had to write an analytical paper comparing Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to a modern day problem in society. It was more difficult to write compared to the research paper because I had to compare it to a difficult read.…

Strategically outlined in William Zinsser's “On Writing Well”, are the key elements that provide a guide for nonfiction writers to perfect their craft. Zinsser emphasises the importance of simplicity when writing in order to free ones work of unnecessary clutter and hold the reader's attention. Many of the concepts discussed by Zinsser are can be seen in James Baldwin's collection of essays entitled Notes of a Native Son, which falls anything short of a boring memoir. Baldwin takes the reader on a journey as he discusses racial matters in American society, his identity as an African American, and critiquing protest novels, movies and America as a whole. The transparency and honesty with which Baldwin writes makes his work exceptional and captivating.…

As I wrote my first paper for this class, A Shadow in the Woods, I found myself to be a bit nervous. I looked down at the notes I had taken and told myself that it was time to apply what I had learned. I knew that I had many things to avoid, such as comma splices, bad word choice and incorrect grammar. When I first received my graded paper, I grew worried because of how many red marks were on it. I was used to my high school teachers using a red pen to mark my mistakes.…

Title Enrolling the EOF program has lighten up a path in life that would have gone completely undiscovered had I walked alone. Along the path was my introduction to college writing, a class that has improved my writing skills profoundly.
