Zeus And Hades, The Greek Gods

I have chosen to write about Zeus and Hades, the Greek Gods. Zeus is the god of the sky and Hades is the god of the underworld. The reason I chose this topic is because I have always had an interest in Greek gods ever since I picked up a video game and played with the different Greek god characters. While doing that I discovered each God and what they represent. I feel that this topic is very important to Western Civilization because the Greeks worshipped these gods as their religion.

There are many more gods and goddesses to discuss and each of them have very key roles in the religion. Zeus was almighty and ruled with an iron fist, he was rarely challenged but often respected. Hades ruled with fear. Using his power to create death and bringing their souls into the underworld. Both of them were essential in the world of Greeks and goddesses, and in a sense they needed each other to coexist. If there is no underworld then there is only sky and there would be no place for dead souls.
The Father of Zeus and Hades is Cronus. Cronus is also called Saturn, Kronos, Cronos. Cronus was the ruling Titan who came to power by castrating his father Uranus. Hera was his wife that ruled alongside him. When he first had his children, Cronus ate each of them to make sure that he would not kill them. This worked until Hera, unhappy at the loss of her children, tricked Cronus into swallowing a rock, instead of Zeus. There were many different places that had different timing to holding these events. Usually one happened every season. In Athens, one happened every season. They had plays and games and singing which they had awards for the best person. They had the Olympic Games every four years in the summer and winter, which were separated by two years. The Olympic Games were held to honor Zeus and the Pantheon. Plays were very common in festivals and most of them were for religious, or humorous purposes. Whoever won the Olympic Games was very important for the city-states because it gave them a lot of pride. They also had different games like the Pythian Games which was dedicated to Apollo.
The Greeks believed in gods and goddesses who, they thought, had control over every part of people 's lives. The Ancient Greeks believed that they had to pray to the gods for help and protection, because if the gods were unhappy with someone, then they would punish them.
