Every parents goal os to raise their children to have a better life than they had, that is why parent self-help books are flying of the shelves and ending up on best seller lists. Parents want to know what they can do to raise their children to succeed in the world. Root-Bernstein and Root-Bernstein devote their lives to the study of worldplay and how children’s paracosms are a brilliant method of developing divergent thinking. Parents need to embrace the spirit of the times and nurture and foster creativity in their children. However, raising creative children is no simple tasks, and many of the attributes creative children often require a high tolerance level to manage. Zeitgeist, a term originally coined by the German philosopher Goethe, roughly translates to the spirt of the times. Boring elaborates saying that zeitgeist is “the climate of opinion as its affects thinking”, furthermore zeitgeist is an invisible force of culture that directs the progress of societies (Runco, 2014, p. 209). Each community has its own zeitgeist, because the values of each community is different. For example in Eastern Asian cultures parents raise their children in a way that values introversion, in contrast American families raise their kids in hopes that they develop extroverted characteristics, because extroversion is deemed an admiral personality trait by the American …show more content…
It is important the school acknowledges the need for more than just convergent thinking. ____ wrote that creativity is crucial in idea generation which in return helps students with convergent thinking (Pang, 2015, p. 123). Preferably the school has a mix between strict and lax structure, because that is the best environment for the fostering of divergent thinking (RUNCO PAGE?). It is optimal if the school has an opposite structure than the child experiences at home. The ability of the child to function in the two distinct atmospheres will increase the child’s flexibility and openness to exposure. The structure of the school, and the teaching style of teachers should balance divergent thinking and convergent thinking. Teachers often are restrained by curricular restraints and are unable to dedicate time specifically for creative thinking, therefor it is vital for teachers to incorporate divergent thinking in all assignments (Pang, 2015, p. 124).
