Across species such as from insects to mammals, TLR pathways vary from fish in comparison to mammals. In the skin of Zebrafish, a high percentage of TLRs are present because of the intense role of fighting off pathogens needed. In the Zebrafish alone, there are 20 variations of TLRs where 10 can be shared with humans but the TLR22 is specific to fish. TLR21 are found in birds, amphibians and fish. TLR6 and TLR10 are not found in fish but TLR14 and TLR18 are not from mammals. However it has been revealed that a flounder has TLR14 implying that TLR14 can be a possible reconstitute for mammalian TLR6 and TLR10.
