"A cold spear of coldness stabbed the city's heart. Roaming around humans, dressed in fancy clothing, walking, and talking on these devices... It was pathetic.. The life in this city was... Cold... You could think that's the worst of it.. I was once TESTED. These cruel labs.. Possessing the power to force dogs to train and fight.. It was dark. This is my story. As Nick was released from his cage, they both walked out of the exit, to find a huge plot of dirt hard land with dogs of all species standing around. "W-what is that!?" Zealot screamed silently. A huge piece of metal, shaped as in a mechanical piece of a dog stared at Zealot and Nick. "That's a cy-dog.. They're mechanical dogs that watch over us.. They are trained to make sure we don't escape. But trust me, they can be dumb at times" Nick snickered. Zealot's ears perked of the sound of another buzzing-- leading to another metal gate opening with 6 dogs walking off into the sunset's light. "Those dogs are on patrol now" Nick told Zealot. "Come on, we should go and get some food" he spoke as they both padded

The story demonstrates how the relationship between individuals and the pack grows incrementally divergent, and how the language as an embodiment of human intelligence stratifies the pack hierarchy and complicates the dogs’ communication to the humans. In the story “Fifteen Dogs”, the author André Alexis frequently uses personification and anthropomorphism to vivify the dogs’ behavior. The attitude towards the introduction diverges as some of the dogs do not like it, while the other dogs like it and they want to continue living with it. After the exiles and conspired murders, the dogs within the remaining group led by Atticus’s hierarchy are in relationship of domination.…

In the nineteenth century, new movements in literature were developed due to changes in society after the Civil War: Realism and Naturalism. The main intent of Realism was to exclude romantic and fantastic ideals in literature, interpolating what is real. Authors who describe themselves as Realists explain things without decorative language or sugar-coating events, and they believe that characters determine their own future, rather than a higher being or fate. Naturalism is believed to be a form of extreme Realism; it surpasses the authenticity of Realism with a philosophical pessimism and deterministic view of life.…

It was a balmy ten o’clock on a Saturday morning in June; the thick air around the Humane Society smelled vaguely of livestock. Stepping into the air-conditioned chill of the shelter, I took a breath, signed in to the volunteer portal, and took my place at the front desk. On this particular day the first people waiting were an older couple, and my heart sank when I saw them. The husband had a bundle in his arms, something wrapped in an old comforter, and I had worked the front desk long enough to know what that meant. Sure enough, as they approached, the blanket shifted and I saw, as I knew I would, the white muzzle and emaciated face of a dog in the decrepit last stages of old age.…
