Zaputil Reflection

It is finally time where we as P3s are attempting to pick our rotations while keeping an eye on the near future after graduation. This week we had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Chase Zaputil who is VP Global Sales for Wolters Kluwer. Dr. Zaputil explained how in most careers there will be a lot to learn on the job where will be doing a variety of different tasks. To do so and succeed one must ask a lot of questions, get past hard situations and overcome difficulties.

Dr. Zaputil shared with us how he had to learn almost all his job tasks for the first time on the job, things he have never done before or expected to be doing. During our training in pharmacy school we are faced with multiple challenges and we learn how to navigate through it. I personally had to face an extra number of challenges in terms of language and culture after moving to the US, yet it’s a never ending task. The key to success is as Dr. Zaputil described is that we must try several times and ask a lot of questions and seek help. Asking questions is a great tool to learn and develop but it also has to be used with the right personnel,

Zaputil had a great quote: “this too shall pass” which illustrate the importance of acceptance, hard work and consistency even if the wanted results are not yet met. For a person to succeed they must know that the road to success is not always downhill, but instead is full of obstacles and failure. I recall trying very hard on my Biology lab reports and receiving low grades, which was frustrating but I kept working hard and it didn’t turn me down. Even though it was very challenging at the time, I had learned a lot about success from that experience and developed skills that I use on daily bases nowadays. Another great quote by K. Robinson that explains this: “if you’re not prepared to be wrong, you will not come up with anything original”. Therefore accepting failure as part of the pathway to success is an essential piece of development of the

Nelson Mandela once said,“The greatest glory in living lies not in never failing, but in rising every time you fail.” Failure helps you to become stronger because it helps you to set a goal. Why we need to fail in order to succeed in life. The article “Fail- Safe Students” by Scott Carlson is about a student named Coleman Fitch and how he almost got kicked out of college. He received a letter from his college saying he had failed out and the Fitches immediately set up a meeting with the school and got Coleman readmitted. If young students do not experience failure they will not learn the meaning of being successful. Not everyone would be lucky enough to get readmitted.…

There’s a Chinese Proverb that says, “Failure is not falling down, but refusing to get back up again.” I really wish I heard that quote when I thought I was a failure, but really was just being lazy. In Carol Dweck’s article “Brainology” a study is conducted on seventh grade students and their mindsets. Their mindsets were measured and studied for two years. Dweck studied the difference between the fixed mindset and the growth mindset students and how they did in school.…

Have you ever failed a test when you studied very hard for it? Don’t you think it is a fallacious idea to be judged by your score, but not your perseverance? In the article, “The Winning Edge”, author Peter Doskoch argues that perseverance is more important than talent, or intelligence. There are billions of people that are being judged by their test and quiz scores, but not by their hard work. This habitual practice is all around American education, despite its wrongness.…

While attending the Kristi Wire lecture, there were many great concepts that helped me understand how to be successful not only in my college work but in my future career as an architect. However, there was one key topic that impacted me more than any of the other topics and that is to “Fail Better”. During this portion of the lecture, Kristi had talked about how to never give up after you fail. I realize now that through out my future life I am going to have many failures, some more drastic than others…

As a student, I don’t think much about how a brain handles all the information I gather while being in control of every bit of my body. Learning is said by many to be important for young ones as it will help their brains grow and so they won’t fall behind. This is usually said by parents, and their children usually fall behind due to their mindset, not failed attempts in learning. A mindset is what every student has and it shows how they are gaining knowledge or intelligence in classes. Two mindsets are in place in school: a fixed mindset where students are afraid of challenges and going further with learning because they don’t have the ability to become intelligent, and a growth mindset where students believe learning is the key way to gain intelligence and will take on challenges.…

Failure is all around us, for most of us it is a daily occurrence even with little things like failing a quiz or missing a shot in your game. I used to let my failures define me and who I have been especially when I failed to make the Varsity soccer team my junior year. I believed I worked hard and I should have been able to accomplish this goal of mine. I worked hard throughout the summer and tried my hardest to keep up with the other girls so I would make Varsity.…

American Jazz legend Duke Ellington once said, “A problem is a chance for you to do your best”. What he means by this is that if you have a situation that is difficult for you, you should try your hardest to solve it. I agree with this quote because I believe that you should try your hardest anytime, especially when you have a difficult situation because that is when it counts the most. For example, when you know a big test is coming up, and you do not know if you are going to pass it or not you should study for it every night even if you do not like studying, you should do your best in the hardest situation.…

Everyone has a different perspective and interpretation about failure. Some people see failure as an unpleasant thing or a limitation of their capabilities, while others see failure as a learning opportunity or a guide on how to become better. For example, in the article, “Want to Get Into College? Learn to Fail,” the author, Angel B. Perez, implies that failure should not be feared because it is not as harmful as most people think it is. He points out that failure is necessary if we want to succeed in college and in life.…
