In the cycles of the art world, artistic styles progress over time and new innovative techniques embody an era, but the past periods never truly fade from the mind of the artist, hence periods like the Renaissance, a rebirth of an older era of art. However this retrospective obsession with art can meddle up an art history timeline if a statue is not properly dated to the correct era. This is case the regarding the Piombino Apollo, a statue found at sea in 1832 with a complex history of study where it eventually made its way to the Louvre Museum in Paris, France. The statue looks extremely archaic, like a kouros, but some more advanced stylistic evidence on the statue contradict the earlier claim regarding an archaic date and places it in a later Hellenistic one.…
This picture is black and white of young boy called Flavio, feeding rice to his younger brother Zacarias. My first impression of Flavio’s archive was that it seemed to be a very sad story. This photo shows the horrors of poverty and Flavio’s strength to survive, and even the courage to accept death without even thinking about himself but of his brothers and sisters. I did some research and found out that Flavio is a 12-year-old boy who has the huge responsibility of being an adult. He is able to accept this responsibility while still remaining vibrant and hopeful even though Flavio is suffering from a physical illness, poverty, overwork and worry.…
To the northwest of the Wastelands lies a shattered neighborhood originally a warehouse district. No longer visible are the street grids parallel and perpendicular to one another. The bars, nightclubs, restaurants, and residential lofts, have become infested with creatures performing camouflage defenses. Suburban neighborhoods had become dwelling grounds for the lower, less dominates species. A Caucasian male ventures through the ruins of a neighborhood mounted on a biped, reptilian creature.…
Leonardo da Vinci’s “Virgin of the Rocks” and Mary Cassatt’s “After the Bath” are two pieces of art I will be comparing and contrasting. [HELP] “Virgin of the Rocks”, also known as, “Madonna of the Rocks” are two pieces of art composed by Leonardo da Vinci, who was a Renaissance artist. They were created in return for a commission by the Fraternity of Immaculate Conception on April 25th, 1483. This painting was going to be in the Church of San Francesco Grande for an altarpiece that would hang in the center surrounded by angels by other artists. The Louvre version is the first one that was created solely by Leonardo around 1483-1486.…
The name “GATTACA” is composed entirely of the letters found in the biological macromolecule DNA. DNA is made up of four letters: G (Guanine), A (Adenine), T (Thymine), and C (Cytosine). The letters are arranged in the molecule in a very specific way, with A only reacting with T (and vice versa) and G only reacting with C (and vice versa). The biological structure in Jerome’s apartment resembles a DNA strand, also known as a double helix.…
Norton Reader, 96-102; bring your typed answer to No. 1, page 102. Brooklyn, New York, a vas city often compared to a labyrinth and for good reason, it is known to confuse those unfamiliar with its surroundings due to its magnitude. Frazier states that those native to Brooklyn, or Brooklynites, use the names of neighborhoods and subway lines to proclaim their current destination but he uses an alternative techniques that, while unique, would probable not better aid a person whom does not possess the knowledge of said other individuals. He uses people and their behaviors to better guess the terrain he presently occupies, he will even go so far to describe smells that can be found in certain places in Brooklyn. As examples of this unusual method,…
In the late 19th century famers were suffering due to the drastic challenges in the economy of the United States. After ending the Civil war, devastation came for the poor farmers worsening their economy, production in their lands, and future. They were trying to find an alley out of their nightmare that they were going through. One of the first issues that caused a struggle for the farmers was the high tariff on produce and imports. They were outraged with this injustice, this meant an increase on manufacture items, leading to more money to be spend ultimately more debt for the farmers.…
Giotto, a younger member of the artist guild, was a student of Cimabue. Both Giotto and Cimabue painted Virgin and Child Enthroned altarpieces created from wood panels of tempera and gold. Viewing their renditions of the Virgin and Child Enthroned, Cimabue’s and Giotto’s distinct styles are apparent. By comparing and contrasting Cimabue’s and Giotto’s style of work, the viewer can see the shift from Byzantine to classical style of art.…
Conventional Meets Interesting Gryphons, or griffons, are mythological creatures with the head and wings of an eagle and the body of a lion. The new substitute teacher talks about these in the short story “Gryphon” written by Charles Baxter. This new substitute teacher comes in and disregards everything that the class had learned and done before that. Within the few days that she is there, she goes on to tell the class wild things about mythological creatures and angles that she claimed to have seen which made me think that she was kind of crazy. My Overall response was, like the narrator, intrigue.…
“Splendid, one of us is to furnish a repast for the hounds. The other will sleep in this very excellent bed. On guard Rainsford, I would like to warn you that will need to be quick to kill me, quick like a fox, (Simile)” Zaroff explained. Spasmodically, Rainsford turned around and grabbed the buck head hanging on the wall behind him and exclaimed, “Take this Buckaroo!”…

Duccio and Giotto paint, arguably, their most influential pieces during the first decade of the twelfth century . Giotto is commissioned by Enrico Scrovegni in Padua to fresco the Arena Chapel to reconcile himself with God over the sins of his father’s usury. In contrast, Duccio is commissioned by the Church fathers of Sienna to paint a panel altarpiece for the Duomo . Giotto utilizes his private patronage to develop new principles of dramatic narrative while Duccio sticks to the Bible stories and develops a variation of Gothic style. Despite differences in technique, location and function of the work, and patronage, these two artists were united in creating a new form of visual language helping to launch the period art historians now call…
For his face was like a dropped meat pie and his skin was yellow and pale. It is no wonder the sight of him would scare the devil out of the masses? But how could society be accepting of the monster, when even the monsters father turned from him in disgust. Such is the consequence of playing god, that even the brightest minds on the planet cannot stop the inevitable…
