I was often disheveled, wore a straw hat, and sometimes wore farm clothes under my officer's jacket. I am said to have earned my nickname Old Rough-and-Ready from my clothing, "rough", and my preparedness to fight, "ready". There are theories that I was actually assassinated and that the snack I ate was purposely

Zachary Taylor As President Zachary Taylor was the twelfth president of the United States, he only served for one year four months and five days. When he became president, congress was facing questions about whether California, Utah, and New Mexico, would become states or remain federal territories; also congress was threatening to divide about whether slavery would be in place if they became states.
