Yuna In Final Fantasy X

Improved Essays
The protagonist of the video game, “Final Fantasy X” will be used to apply four different psychological concepts to the character. Yuna is a twenty-year-old women who lives in the Island of Besaid. She is the daughter of High Summoner Braska who defeated the menacing monster named Sin. As her father, she is following the lineage of summoners to vanquish Sin as every generation of summoners defeat sin once every ten years, until he is reborn again. Yuna, along with her guardians go on a pilgrimage to obtain Aeons (mythical deities summoners can summon to help alongside the summoner in battle to defeat sin) and learns to act accordingly to her own will even if it meant going against her beliefs.

Yunalesca tells Yuna in order to obtain the final aeon, she needs to sacrifice one of her guardians. Yuna knew if she did not obtain the final aeon, she would defy yevon’s will and lose the only power in the world that could defeat Sin. She denied the sacrifice and says “No more. The final summoning is a false tradition that should be thrown away.” Her personal construct of obtaining the final aeon was a false tradition to her, so after she denied the goddesses offering, yevon proclaimed to her that she has no more hope in defeating Sin. When yevon looked down upon her, she held courage and hope that even without that power, she will continue her path to defeat sin.
Yuna had an ideal outcome for her alternative, so she had an outcome expectation, which comes from Albert Bandura’s cognitive social learning theory. Outcome expectancy is a belief of either a benefit or consequence obtained after a certain behavior was performed. Self-efficacy is similar to outcome expectancy, which is the belief of having the capability to perform the behavior so Yuna visualized the future she wanted. She sees her guardians as friends and cherishes them for everything they had to go through to help her on her pilgrimage. She said to her guardians “You are all my guardians, but most of all, my friends. If I were to choose any of you as an offering, I would not forgive myself.” She has the value of her friends as a top priority that she would even go against yevons will, and may likely face consequences. She chose to deny the offer because she stayed true to herself because without her guardians, she would have not made it so far through her pilgrimage.
Yuna’s support allowed her to finish strong on her pilgrimage. Her support came from the hierarchy of needs, which comes from Abraham Maslow’s Need Hierarchy theory. Hierarchy of needs is a five tier model of human needs. The hierarchy of needs consists of physiological needs, safety needs, belonging and love needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization. Yuna was in the self-actualization stage because she had her guardians/friends love and protection throughout her pilgrimage and supported her in whatever decision she

Rudy and Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Abraham Maslow created a theory about how the human meets their needs. His theory contains five tiers that start at the physiological needs and continue up to self-actualization. Physiological needs are our most basic needs that get us through everyday life, such as food, water, shelter, and sleep. The next step is safety needs which is where we find security in life and is the last “basic” need. Next, we reach the need of belongingness and love, which is a psychological need rather than a physiological need.…
