The Maya people of the Yucatan were described as being a tall and robust people of good physique who possessed great strength. They were also described as having a common feature of being bow-legged as well. This was a desired trait and is speculated as having been caused from being carried astride their mother's hip since infancy. At least, this was what was practiced by the Maya in order to achieve this trait. It was also considered fortunate to be cross-eyed.
