It is important to note that charity has not changed fundamentally over the decades they still require both large-scale and small-scale support. The IBC was an effort to raise money to fight ALS, a lethal disease. The challenge is entrenched in the YouTube form as the movement gained momentum because of people posting videos of their challenge experience. In general, the response exemplifies Benjamin’s “political” focus that comes with new technology (1057). YouTube’s influence on the movement is not only seen in the use of videos flash bang but also in how people discussed the phenomenon. A news story covering the aftermath of the IBC continually referred to the general public as participants in the movement seen in their expression of “people” as the major contributes (Wolff-Man). Once they had contributed their little piece to the IBC video they move on to other videos and causes. The abandonment of the movement is markedly different than the March of Dimes’ experience where they reflected on their website the “years” of effort individuals contributed (Rose). The individual fully gives their time and effort over to the battle. This is the movie perspective of the specialized individual who contributes mouths of work to produce an art piece for the masses to experience. In this, one can see the way YouTube has redefined what it means to enact a large scale
