High prices and the smell of grease are the main characteristics of this place. The long faced workers dressed in red shirts with the logo on the front and long black pants, scraped greasy pans and washed dirty dishes. The identically dressed workers also answered phones, made pizzas and helped others at the front desk. The countless number of hungry customers poured in and out of the building. I saw red all over, red floors, red pizza boxes, red uniforms, red pizza sauce and red counters.…
The city of Duluth, MN is looking to put in new parks around town based on different population and socioeconomic factors. This analysis is based on the block groups in Duluth, MN that come from the source of the census bureau. Then the locating of existing parks came from UMD geodatabase. A buffer of 100 meters was created around these existing park boundaries and then erased (see figure 2) to factor out the areas that already had a park that was within walking distance of households. In addition, Duluth wants to know if parks are distributed equally among the amount of children in each block group.…
When I was pregnant with all my children I would be filled with anticipation with what will they look like and who will they be with they grow up. But the sad part of this anticipation is wishing past every stage of their development to see the adult they will become. I often wonder if my mom thought the same things when she was pregnant with me and I wonder if she likes what she sees now that I am an…
“On behalf of the youth cabinet we want to express to you how much a spending freeze in 2018 would hurt Toronto’s youth and other marginalized youth,” begins Riley Peterson. The 18-year-old Ryerson University student is seated directly in front of Mayor John Tory and a committee of his hand-picked executive members on this mild May day. A freeze, direction endorsed by Tory and his allies, would make it harder to access social services and to break the cycle of poverty, Peterson says.…
It is important to evaluate whether or not the EYPP is making a difference to the children who need it the most. In the early years observations take place to assess where a child currently is working within according to the EYFS. This is where a good relationship between the setting and family would make a difference. A knowledgeable key person will know their key child’s starting points and will be able to track their progress through their assessments. In May 2015 OFSTED began including children receiving EYPP in their inspections.…
According to the text, this population was chosen because studies integrating these behaviors change models typically enrolled participants having high education and socioeconomic status. Validation of these models in specialized populations will provide information regarding their applicability and will assist in dictating appropriate behavior-change interventions to underserved individuals. 3 - We learned during this class that the social determinants of health are related to “the conditions in which people are born, grown up, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age, as well as the systems put in place to deal with illnesses that affect health and quality of life (Book).” Results of this study indicated that the current sample of low-income individuals attending primary care clinics has high rates of sedentary behaviors that may have a significant impact on their health…

The Department of Parks and Recreation of Nebraska found through an in-depth study, the per capita annual medical cost of inactivity was nearly three times as high as the per capita cost for the bike trail system (Wang, et al., 2004). The City of Heath has created an excellent pedestrian trail system that not only provides health benefits, but also connects people to other amenities. Such as, the Heath Water Park, Hoback Park, and Heath High School, these are the places where “community” happens. Proposal…
My child observation and classroom observation took place at the Mt. San Jacinto Child Development and Education center in the preschool/pre-k (ages 36 months to 54 months) program room. This classroom has 2 teachers and 15 children in attendance during my observation. My study child is a male student age 4 who for this assignment I will refer to as C. The classroom environment as a whole can handle the children within the program, however I will provide a better picture of the entire room to have a clear picture for reflection. As a child walking into this classroom you feel a sense of warmth of both the environment and also from the teacher as she greats all her children individually.…
Middle and High School Student Perceptions Regarding the Effectiveness of Teacher-Directed Bullying Interventions Introduction School bullying is an important topic in the field of primary education. It is a widely recognized problem for numerous school environments that poses potential detrimental effects if not properly addressed (Aluedse, 2006). Unfortunately, this issue is often shrouded by misinformation and a lack of understanding regarding the long-term impact bullying may produce. It can adversely affect the educational environment, not only for perpetrators, but for victims and witnesses (Casebeer, 2012). Regardless of the individual’s role, trauma may result from repeated occurrences (Carney, 2008).…
My observation of Ms. de la Fuente’s 5th grade class this week started after lunch during their math time. On Wednesday, their schedule had been different from normal and there was two other teachers in the classroom teaching them about different types of rocks. On Thursday, a sixth grade math teacher came to the classroom to further explain what they had been learning about conversions, and to tell them about what they would learn next year when they went to sixth grade.. During arrival in the morning and dismissal in the afternoon, the same routine is followed on almost all days. In the morning, the students go wait in the gym and are picked up by the teacher when the first bell rings.…
The orthodoxies framing contemporary analysis of youth in industrialised democracies are outlined in Threadgold and Nilan’s rationalisation as more complex and fragmented in nature than that of generations before (Threadgold & Nilan, 2009, p. 51). Threadgold and Nilan’s empirical research targets two key areas in their survey: – engagements with popular culture and attitudes towards the future are in line with findings that youth are negotiating future risks constituted by privileged cultural capital (Threadgold & Nilan, 2009, p. 48), all while preserving class as an embedded sociological concept. The arguments made by Threadgold and Nilan support the proposition that reflexivity is mediated through the habitus which remains class-based, encapsulated…
While moving daily in our given space, the satisfactory accomplishment of certain activities (school, work, leisure) depends on the organization of our journeys. Contingent on the environment in which these actions take place, different elements such as age, social group or family situation are taken into consideration. The mental and process of things is different from one individual to another. Some are more responsible or are freer in their actions (adults), others are in between stages or must learn a new sense of about their own identity (adolescents). Adolescence can be a time of both confusion and great discovery.…
During my clinical experience, I was able to observe a young adult coming in for a family planning service. The reason for the visit was to obtain birth control. A pregnancy test and sexually transmitted disease (STD) screening were done. During the client visit, health history and pertinent objective physical assessment were obtained. Assessments of depression, smoking, alcohol, and drug use were conducted.…
