Wait, why don’t we go back to the beginning. It was near the beginning of fifth grade. There were many new kids at my school that year, they all were pretty nice. So an old group of friends didn’t like a new girl, surprise surprise. They would whisper bad things behind her back, call her fat, and run away from her at recess. It felt like forever, waiting there in the office, having the principal yelling at them. When her parents finally arrived the principal took action on the issue. Although, I believe the girl got suspended, I never saw her again.
As I explained in this story I have seen youth violence at my school. Youth violence is not only bullying and harsh words like in this story, but there are many other variations of violence. Self harm, cyberbullying, name calling, and even suicide.
There are many causes for why people bully others. For example, trouble at home, parent or family issues, or unpaid expenses. Many children have these problems, but they don’t know how to handle it. So they take out their anger on others who seem different. Causing the victim of the bully to get angry, making them lash out on someone else. It’s just a big chain of violence that never stops, unless you do your part.
Here are a few ways that you and I could help solve youth violence. If you see someone being bullied in the hall or on the internet, stand up. Be brave and most importantly be friendly, because the only reason bullies bully is because they have problems of their own at home or
