Youth Athletes Should Not Be Allowed In Sports

Decent Essays
Should every youth athlete get a trophy just for participating in a sport? NO! Reward only the best. According to several articles youth athletes are being given trophies just for participating in a sport. The money spent on the trophies simply is not worth it. It does not teach youth athletes how the real world works because they are not being earned. Although, trophies do not really hurt the youth athletes so I can see that they may not be a detriment.

The money spent on the trophies simply is not worth giving them. Teams spend $2000 to $3000 dollars on participation trophies. The funds could be used to train coaches, offer scholarships or hire more staff. Participation trophies are a poor use of funds.

Many people find themselves asking if participation trophies are even important or not, or if we should even have them in general. Well we should, for reasons that might have been overlooked. Commitment and and dedication show the growth of responsibility and a participation trophy shows just this. Richard Greenberg says this, “Participation trophies mark the fact that these kids kept a commitment and showed up to the games.”…

I believe that participation rewards should not be handed out and kids should have to earn their trophies the right way, by winning.
